WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Three

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

WCW: The Comic (Issue Three)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: What’s the one phrase that belongs on the cover of any good comic book about wrestling?

YESSSSSSS! Guys, I’m just so excited. They finally realised that stories about wrestlers wrestling was NOT THAT FUN, whereas a comic about wrestlers trying to foil the terrorist threats of other wrestlers on a cruise ship? THE MOST FUN.

However, even this dynamite phrase combined with another gorgeous photo of Sting isn’t quite enough to make the cover ‘pop’. So, what did they add to give it a little extra oomph? That’s right, an inset picture of everyone’s favourite tag team, The Young Pistols:

Tracey Smothers and Steve Armstrong = BUYS, brother. Never mind that they hadn’t been featured in previous issues or that they’d all but split up by the time this comic was published, two Southern boys in sparkly overcoats is the kind of thing your average comics reader can’t get enough of.

I can also confirm that they play a surprisingly big role in this issue, but I won’t spoil anything – just prepare yourselves!
