WWE TLC 2013 Preview and Predictions

WWE TLC is this weekend. Tables, Ladders and Chairs, that is. Not to be confused with T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @typicalROHfan, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlackett.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Fandango (pre show match)

typicalROHfan:

Dolph Ziggler has replaced The Miz as “Mr. Pre Show” and is continuing his streak here vs. Fandango. I’ve become a fan of Fandango and his match vs. Bryan on the most recent RAW was pretty swell. Dolph Ziggler is one step above Kofi Kingston and Miz territory. Or maybe one step below already? They kind of have a storyline at least. That being said, match should be good.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Fandango wins. Wacky somewhat upset.

Tim:

Ziggler’s career trajectory has been pretty depressing over the last year. I still find myself not caring too much about Fandango. They both can have solid matches so this should be fine in that regard, I just do not have any interest in it.

Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Fandango wins.

Tom:

Wow, what a difference a year makes. Ziggler beat Cena in the main event of TLC 2012, and this year, he’s been banished to the pre  show. This should be perfectly fine, although there’s something generally very lifeless about pre show singles matches. A lot of this is because they generally involve The Miz, but I dunno, man. As happy as I am to see The Usos make more regular PPV appearances (though not for this one, sadly), they always did make for fun pre show matches.

Interest Level: 4/10
Prediction: Ziggler wins.

Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. Ryback & Curtis Axel vs. Big Show & Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro for the Tag Team Titles

typicalROHfan:

This is interesting but it sucks that there’s no gimmicks involved with any of the TLC stipulations. Ryback and Curtis Axel could be the lamest tag team of all time. Hopefully Antonio Cesaro big swings The Big Show.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust win and retain one more time.

Tim:

I’d like to point out that merely thinking about Ryback and Curtis Axel as a team makes me want to go to sleep. There are clearly enough good to great wrestlers in this match to make it pretty grand, even without a T, L, or a C involved.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust retain.

Tom:

When was this announced? Weird. Anyway, it should be fun, even in spite of the thrown together RyXel (CurBack?) and ShowSterio (Big Rey?) teams. What happened to The Usos? Where those Usos at? Even without my favourite face-painted Samoans though, this should hopefully be another step in the right direction for Cesaro and his upward swing (SWING, GET IT GUYS, LIKE THAT MOVE HE DOES). Them Rhodes boys ain’t losing those belts though.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust retain.

AJ Lee vs. Natalya for the Diva’s Title

typicalROHfan:

I’m not a big Natalya fan so I’m not anticipating this match as most are. It’s just there for me.

Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: AJ Lee wins.

Tim:

I like both competitors. Doubt it will be as good as I assume it could be. This is all I have to say about it.

Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Natalya wins.

Tom:

Sure, okay. Can the NXT Divas be brought up soon? Can Summer Rae have a feud with AJ? I’m just a little sick of ol’ Nattie (poor Nattie).

Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: AJ Lee wins.

Big E Langston vs. Damien Sandow for the Intercontinental Title

typicalROHfan:

Two very good wrestlers in interesting places of their career competing for IC title. I’ve missed this. I’m not sure how well they will mesh together but I am looking forward to it. There’s a slight chance of a title change if WWE wants to push Big E faster without the mid-card but doesn’t seem likely this early.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Big E for the win.

Tim:

This match seems promising to my naked eye (I’m not wearing my glasses). Big E Langston and Damien Sandow are two of my favorites and the IC Championship is a belt I always have way too much hope for. What seems to be the theme with this PPV though is that I don’t care too much about the storylines.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Big E Langston retains.

Tom:

I really like both these guys, and Sandow has seemed to show a little more viciousness since he failed in his attempt to take the World Title from Cena. They haven’t been doing Big E any favours by continually throwing him out there on commentary with the Lame Dad Trio of JBL, Cole and King, but he’s still fun to watch in the ring and I hope he gets to show more of his personality in promos soon.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Big E Langston retains.

The Wyatt Family vs. Daniel Bryan

typicalROHfan:

If any single performer in pro wrestling can make a 1 vs. 3 handicapped match vs. one good in ring performer, one below average in ring performer and one guy WWE does not believe in being an actual in ring performer work and deliver, it’s Daniel Bryan. My main interest in this is like a self imposed bet. Can Daniel Bryan make this match good? If so, I will call him the best of all time. Story wise, no interest in the slightest.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Wyatt Family wins the match. Daniel Bryan proves he’s the best in any world that has ever been a world.

Tim:

If anyone can make a ridiculous handicap match worth watching, it is Daniel Bryan. I’m still a fan of Luke Harper so that is another plus. Hopefully this match will conclude the storyline.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins.

Tom:

Alright, so the first of two handicap matches on the same show. I’m weirdly intrigued by these because it seems so counter-intuitive to book one of these, let alone two, so it seems like there’s going to have to be some ‘creative booking’ – this could be a good thing, or it could be a very, very, very bad thing. Anyway, Bryan’s great and while I’m guessing it won’t be as good as his last handicap match because of the lack of Antonio Cesaro, it should be pretty good.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: The Wyatt Family wins.

The Shield vs. CM Punk

typicalROHfan:

This interests me on a few levels. It’s nice to see CM Punk in an important position on the show since he’s been stuck with the mid-card filler since facing Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. After the fantastic end segment of RAW last week, this match is more worthwhile wondering about what CM Punk does next. On the other side, The Shield are teasing a split. I think they will win this match despite some turmoil between the three as the Royal Rumble could be where it escalates more with physical attacks on each other.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: The Shield win.

Tim:

I think we will see both Bryan and Punk overcome the trios facing them. I find this more interesting story-wise because of the problems within The Shield and mainly where the stuff CM Punk is heading. Plus, I always love to see Punk wrestle people like Ambrose and Rollins. Hopefully we get to see Reigns do a beautiful spear in here somewhere as well.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: CM Punk wins.

Tom:

I’m guessing this is the handicap match that’ll happen later on the card, and thus be the one that features the most wackiness. What kind of wackiness? Maybe a Bryan interference (leading to a frustrated Punk and the emergence of tension between the two)? More teases of a Shield break-up.? Who knows, man. Before all that, we’ll probably see some pretty great wrestling too.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: The Shield wins.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton in a TLC Match for Title Unification

typicalROHfan:

The fantastic RAW segment added way more intrigue to this match than it originally had. I’m excited to see what happens here mostly due to factors not involving these two. In my ideal world full of optimism and strawberry-banana frozen yogurt rain drops, this match ends in a no contest. Triple H or someone on his behalf (Shield, Wyatt Family) attacks Cena in hopes of giving Orton the win. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk would attack those guys and prevent the Orton win. Bryan and Punk end up taking the titles and WWE has no champion. Royal Rumble match ends up being for the Undisputed title with all 30 participants having a chance. That being said? Cena will probably win.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: John Cena wins both belts.

Tim:

I did not care one bit about this until the previous Raw’s final segment. With Triple H and Orton on the outs, I think that will add something to this match. I still don’t think these two should necessarily be the one’s to unify the titles. That all being said, I don’t think we get a clear winner. I think we get a belt switch.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: Cena wins the WWE Championship. Randy Orton wins the World Heavyweight Championship.

Tom:

I don’t think the match will be much to write home about – Cena’s had decent ladder / TLC matches before, but only with the right opponent. I’m REALLY not sure Orton’s the right opponent, since I can’t recall any ladder match he’s had that wasn’t Money in the Bank and also because I’m incredibly bored by Orton matches in 2013. The Raw angle definitely gives this a nice little boost and, with the right crowd, it could feel more of a spectacle… but it’s still only the finish that I’m anticipating.

The ‘Cena pulls down the WWE title, Orton pulls down the World Title’ switcharoo now seems too obvious a move for even WWE to pull, but actually unifying the belts and putting them both on one guy doesn’t feel especially likely either. Having said that, I’m going to predict that there’s some kind of screwiness with the finish and Orton walks away with both belts and that leads into a pre-Mania angle with Punk.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Randy Orton wins both belts.
