WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Two, Page 16

    • WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Two, Page 16

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

WCW: The Comic (Issue Two, Page 16)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: Okay, what’s going on here?

Is Lex Luger giving Ron Simmons a double piledriver in the same way that Jericho used to give dudes a triple powebomb? Is that even possible?! That’d be the most amazing thing ever. Alternatively, this panel might just be a confusing stylistic flourish by our favourite artist, ‘Rampaging’ Ron Wilson.

As Simmons is crippled (FOR THE SECOND ISSUE IN A ROW, THIS POOR GUY CAN’T CATCH A BREAK), we get another amazing crowd reaction shot:

‘TBS’ hat aside, that seems like a somewhat accurate portrayal of a ’90s WCW crowd! As opposed to previous appearances, they’re just booing here, rather than calling the wrestlers ‘cads’ or screaming that they ‘stink on ice’. I guess it’s more realistic, but I do miss the crazy crowd chants of the WCW comic.

At the announce desk, Jim Ross and Terrence Taylor, the Computerized Announcer of the ’90s get a little too cute for their own good:

Coming soon to a local theatre near you, it’s the JR / Terry Taylor Chuckle Hour! Featuring lots of mildly humorous wordplay, hot and fresh from ’20s Vaudeville routines.

Anyway, I can confirm that this is DEFINITELY it for Ron Simmons, but watch out on Wednesday when a NEW CHALLENGER EMERGES!
