Wrestling On Earth’s Top 10 Twitter Accounts of 2015

    • Wrestling On Earth’s Top 10 Twitter Accounts of 2015

Wrestlers have Twitter accounts. Usually they’re very bad, but sometimes? Sometimes, they’re solid stuff.

Over the course of about 90 emails, @JoeyOnEarth, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlargh determined their ten favorite wrestling Twitter accounts in 2015. Feelings were hurt, shots were fired and things got very real, but we ultimately came to terms on a list that we can live with, or at least one that we’re too exhausted to keep fighting about any longer.

PLEASE NOTE: We’re only ranking wrestlers and other notables in “The Biz”, so shut up about how funny you and your stupid mates are on Twitter, it’s not always about you ffs.

      10. Dave Meltzer

      Joey:

The pandering for NJPW/PWG and hatred for WWE/Neville has made Dave Meltzer a great presence on social media. Most of his gems are on the podcasts but he will give a fun out of context tweet every now and then. MeltzMan has a perfect dry sense of humor for Twitter. (Sorry, Neville. I tried to keep him off the list but Tom WHINED for HOURS about it.)

      Tim:

I did not agree with The Meltz making this list but a lot of things were said (by Tom) in the deliberations. Eventually you just give up the fight and move on to something else. He’s made a few funny tweets here and there despite not knowing it. His actual jokes can be funny for all of the wrong reasons. I still think someone like Randy Orton deserves this spot. Anyway, there are worse accounts that could have made the list so I can be thankful for having Big Dave in the number ten spot instead.

      Tom:

The other two gave me so much shit about this, you wouldn’t believe it. Is Big Dave a wrestler? No, no he is not. However, his presence on social media is one of my absolute favourite things about wrestling, even when he’s droning on about UFC.

The times when he makes “jokes” are especially sensational. Really, my favourite bit about Melty is the way everyone else reacts to him, like he’s the mad old uncle in the corner of the room making references no-one gets.

      9. Daniel Bryan

      Joey:

I love Daniel Bryan’s presence on social media. You can tell he clearly hates it but his employer and his wife kind of forces him to use it. The results are that of an old man who thinks smart phones are evil posting rare honest thoughts without a filter. I know this is about Twitter only but I’m a fan of Bryan’s Instagram always being updated coincidentally the same time as Brie Bella’s and typically all posts about Brie Bella.

ALSO OF NOTE: Bryan RT’d a link to our review of his book in 2015. Tom is confirmed a traitor.

      Tim:

I could have went either way on this one. Daniel Bryan seems like a really sweet person who tries to stand by his core set of values. He uses his platform to try spreading what he believes is right which is kind of nice in the wrestling world. He has a certain charm about him but that’s what makes him so likable in the first place. I don’t think he tweets enough but it is always funny when you get the vibe that he’s just there because he has to be.

      Tom:

I personally wouldn’t have Bryan in my top 10 list. I think he’s an absolute sweetheart and his anti-consumerism messages that run in complete opposite to WWE’s core mission are very fun, but he’s just not active enough – when it comes to social media content, I need volume!

RESPONSE NOTE: I am NOT a traitor, Joey just can’t stand me keeping it real.

      8. Sasha Banks

      Joey:

SMH at Tom not even putting one of her tweets! He’s lost it here. Sasha Banks is clearly a great Twitter account and should probably be higher on the list. Not everyone has to be a shock jock Howard Stern character (more on that later) so here are two quick favorite Boss tweets.

Perfect combination of WWE humor and life goals.

      Tim:

I enjoy seeing Sasha Banks on Twitter. She’s not incredibly funny all of the time or anything but it’s one of the few WWE accounts that feels like I’m reading posts from someone living out their dream. She isn’t afraid to show that she’s a huge fan of wrestling. Her and Bayley playfully tweeting back and forth is a nice upper on a timeline that is often full of downers. Also, her Tumblr game is better than anyone elses.

      Tom:

Joey’s setting new standards of unprofessionalism in this post, unreal. Anyway, yes, the most memorable tweet featuring Sasha from 2015 was sadly not even one of hers and that’s just how it is. I’m still not entirely sold on her Twitter account, although her Tumblr is a sensational example of how to talk shit without getting in trouble.

      7. Trent?

      Joey:

Trent? gets Twitter. He’s hilarious without ever crossing the line or making it seem like he tries too hard. There’s a reason he’s in NJPW, ROH, PWG and Gabeland. That’s his hot tweets, baby. Good wrestling too but mostly the tweets.

      Tim:

Trent? is a personal favorite of mine and I would definitely have him higher up on my own list. His particular sense of humor is always refreshing within the wrestling bubble. His conversations with other wrestlers (especially Chuck Taylor) are usually a great time.

      Tom:

Trent? is great, even with his padded wwf follow numbers.

      6. Chuck Taylor

      Joey:

*I never knew what go away heat was until Chuck Taylor started his 2015 twitter bits. The fake retirement, bitter tweets gimmick and tawdry style just reminds me of the era of shock jock radio. Chuckie T has devolved into a recurring character you’d hear on Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony. I recognized he has enough gems to make the top 10 BUT I ranked him 9th or 10th. I long for the days of one-liners and 24/7 title video uploads.

(*Writer might have been paid off by Delirious and/or Gabe.)

      Tim:

People, this one got heated. Feelings were hurt. Awful things were said. It left me dealing with buried and confused feelings towards Chuckie T. I think he’s hilarious. I’ve been a huge fan of his for a long time. Not many people in wrestling have a sense of humor I can get behind. I went into this wanting to put him in the number two or three spot. I think he’s been just a bit worse on Twitter this year but that is still way better than most. The retirement bit was alright. The down-on-my-luck bits have been fine.

Nothing about 2015 Chuckie T on Twitter reminds me of a shock jock radio host at all. On social media I think he’s been a great follow all year unless I’ve missed something egregious. He deletes his tweets a lot for some reason so it’s possible, I guess. His interactions with Trent? still get a laugh out of me. He might not be as good as he once was but most of everyone else is still really bad in comparison.

      Tom:

Joey has a real problem with Chuckie T, I’m not sure why. We grilled him on it but none of his answers were that compelling. A recurring Howard Stern character? Puh-LEASE. Anyway, it’s a shame he keeps deleting all his tweets, but Chuck Taylor remains one of my faves on Twitter. He sees wrestling for the big ridiculous mess that it truly is and I appreciate the HELL out of that.

      5. TAZZ

      Joey:

I’m a “Tazz is gonna kill u” guy.

The Tazz Show is favorite wrestling audio show and it has carried over to Twitter. The passive aggressive tweets, incredible typos and overall ego shown by TazzMan leads to unbelievable results. There’s nothing as glorious on Twitter these days as Tazz ranting about WWE disrespecting him or blocking fans for referring to radio show as a “podcast.”

      Tim:

Tazz continues to keep me entertained. His arrogance and passive aggressiveness mix so well together to create something truly special on Twitter. Unlike Lance Storm who comes off like a complete asshole, I have found that Tazz has a somewhat likable side. He doesn’t really say anything too awful but instead is always on the defensive. He doesn’t like his “radio show” to be called a “podcast.” He’s all about talking to his community of listeners but is so quick to jump on them. He thinks WWE has a bigger problem with him than they probably do. It’s the BEST. I’m a Tazz Man. I would have had him in the fourth or third position on this list.

      Tom:

Tazz blocked me a year or two ago, the bastard, but his extremely petty feuds with fans has been fantastic to watch from afar. He has an incredible talent for taking issue with anyone over everything and I can’t get enough of it.

      4. The Young Bucks

      Joey:

Matt Jackson would probably be my favorite Twitter account and recently terrified me by following my page. Not to get too self-indulgent but my top 3 most intimidating twitter accounts that I randomly remember may occasionally see my bullshit tweets:

      3. Kevin Owens

      2. Matt Jackson

      1. Wesley Snipes (Blade)

Corporate Kane is genius with his quips and more importantly, the clutch RTs. The art of the perfect RT is pivotal unless you want your RTs turned off and Matt understands the power, brother. Indytaker is great too because he doesn’t care at all and has no filter. He’s a wild man. They’re both hilarious and make Twitter a great place.

      Tim:

Their bit is getting old to me. I wanted them farther back on the list at least but WHAT CAN YOU DO? I think they still have their funny moments. Sometimes I think they use their gimmick to get away with being whiny. Who else can get away with name-searching on Twitter and acting like babies like they tend to do? It was fun for a while. It fits them. I get it. Tweet some memes. Sell your t-shirts. We eat that up. I think I’m just ready to see if they can act any other way or something? They started a trend with their humor and no one does it as good as they do but at a certain point you’ve got to evolve… but why do that when people are throwing money at you?

      Tom:

Yeah, we combined Indytaker and Corp Kane into one presence because it felt unfair to split them apart. Even when almost every other indy guy is ripping off their shtick and doing a very lame job of it (**COUGH COUGH ALL EGO ETHAN PAGE COUGH COUGH**), they’re still insane and excellent in a way that none of the pretenders are.

      3. Asuka

      Joey:

      Asuka is great. OK.

      Tim:

Asuka City is WAY better than Suplex City. She has good taste in video games and classic rock. She retweets only the best fan art. She seems like a legitimately fun person. He charisma shows through her Twitter account and she just does her thing. It’s a delight to follow her. One night a roach tried stealing her Amiibos or something!

      Tom:

Asuka is absolutely incredible. There’s a real energy to the way she bulldozes right on through that language barrier and it makes everything she says very funny. She truly is an explosion of laughter.

      2. Big E

      Joey:

Big E has been spectacular on Twitter for years but this year has been his peak. His sense of humor and intelligence leads to great responses to dumb fans and weird questions. I know this is only about 2015 but he called Bo Dallas “vomitrocious” a few years ago and deserves extra respect for it. Big E is a national treasure.

      Tim:

Big E has shown his brilliance on Twitter for along time. The popularity of The New Day has given him so much more to work with. He’s my favorite member of the trio and his Twitter account only helps his case.

      Tom:

He’s always been great, but the success of The New Day has really helped make 2015 a stand-out year for E because he seems to have lost his damn mind. I especially enjoyed him repeatedly accusing Tom Phillips of being an incredibly huge pervert!

      1. Kevin Owens

      Joey:

Yeah, Kevin Owens has been the best on Twitter for years now and that won’t change unless Scott Steiner has new targets to rant on. Owens is the best at dealing with trolls and even better at dealing with terrible wrestler tweets. We’ve needed a hero for years now to step up and destroy Alex Riley on social media. Kevin Owens did it.

Forget winning the NXT title, beating John Cena in is first WWE match or main eventing Barclays Center. The destruction of Alex Riley was his greatest wrestling accomplishment of 2015. It was pure art.

      Tim:

I couldn’t possibly see anyone else making the top spot. Kevin Owens tweets almost perfectly for someone in his position. The Alex Riley feud is definitely a highlight from the year. You couldn’t make me give a shit about anything involving Alex Riley but throw in Kevin Owens, Twitter, and Riley not being able to handle social media and I’m ready to watch Ragey get his ass kicked. It was a fun time. I don’t think many in the wrestling world understand how to use social media quite like he does.

      Tom:

Big Kev’s had a slightly less active year on Twitter in terms of volume, but the standard of his tweets has remained exceptionally high for someone under a WWE contract. The destruction of Ragey earlier in the year was a highlight, but his transition to life as a main roster superstar has just been great to witness. The dismissal of dumb fans, the bemusement at all the crazy merch he’s getting, the way he easily handles the Zigglers and Sheamuses of the world who try to banter him off, it’s all great stuff! THE BEST OF THE BEST.
