This Or That (8/6/2015)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Who has had more great matches in WWE?

Who needs a win more at Summerslam: Brock Lesnar or Seth Rollins?

Summerslam.

Tim:

I’d prefer both of these people win their matches at Summerslam but Seth Rollins can take the loss and eventually bounce back. His character needs to evolve some anyway. Being the dominant beast who beat the Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak is such a huge part of Lesnar’s character that that having The Undertaker get his win back from Brock Lesnar would be such a huge goof-up.

I always thought the big conclusion to Lesnar’s WWE run would be a young star making his name by being the one who brought down the man who broke the streak and ran roughshod over everyone he faced afterwards. Wasting this potential moment on The Undertaker seems nearsighted and dull. The Undertaker doesn’t need the win and the match won’t be anything to talk about. You’re killing the very special momentum of one of your biggest attractions for nothing.

Joey:

While it would be damaging to Seth Rollins if he loses multiple times to John Cena and has his title reign end at Summerslam, I think Brock Lesnar needs the win more. If Rollins loses the match and the title, what really changes for him? Regardless, he will be the #1 heel in the company. If Lesnar loses, part of the magic of his rare appearances will be gone. It started when he defeated Undertaker and it would end if he loses back. Brock is the coolest thing WWE has had in years and you can’t sacrifice ruining that in this scenario.

I’d like to play the contrarian here but Brock losing to old man Undertaker would be a colossal bummer. Seth’s run so far has already had a fair amount of nonsense so I don’t think a Cena loss is going to hurt him too badly, though obviously it’d be nice if he retains. However, if Brock loses to your dad… man, that’ll look pretty ridiculous for everyone.

Who do you miss more: Dolph Ziggler or Kane?

Tim:

I could leave both of these men behind and be fine but I miss Ziggler being okay in the ring and incredibly awkward in his Rusev feud way more than Kane being a bore to nearly everything he touches.

I kinda miss Corporate Kane. Seeing him walk around in slacks and trying to protect Seth Rollins was funny stuff. As good as Dolph Ziggler is in the ring, I honestly keep forgetting he’s out of action as his work this year has been pretty lackluster and his character quite terrible. Ziggler’s promo segments in the Lana/Rusev storyline was worse than anything Kane related.

Tom:

Ziggler’s the better wrestler, but I don’t really enjoy his matches that much and I find his promos unspeakably lame. Kane has been essentially unwatchable as a wrestler for years, but he’s capable of being a decent presence in wacky in-ring skits. I don’t know, man. I guess Kane, but I’d rather they swap gimmicks. Have Kane be the hair metal improv guy with Lana as a girlfriend and Dolph be a monster in a mask/disapproving dude in slacks.

Better Tough Enough season: Steve Austin’s or Chris Jericho’s?

I haven’t watched the Stone Cold season since it aired but I enjoyed it at the time. I think this season has been a total mess but it’s been incredibly entertaining in the worst way so I have to go with it.

Joey:

There’s this bizarre notion that the Tough Enough season with Steve Austin as a host was good but it was much worse than this year’s. At least now 33% of the show is featured around the judges, specifically Daniel Bryan and The Miz. Seeing Steve Austin cut promos in an empty room to scared kids wasn’t nearly as fun as Miz swerving Paige every week and Bryan shaking his head. Chris Jericho barely says anything but his is better. Maybe that helps. Who knows.

I was never able to see much of Stone Cold’s beyond clips, but the bits of him having a go at everyone were a pretty good time. Jericho is easily the worst part of the current Tough Enough BUT!!! the current Tough Enough is responsible for Tough Talk, which is exceptionally good television, so I’ve got to go for “his version”. Really though, imagine how much banterous Tough Talk would be if Stone Cold was part of it too. The man lives for banter and has no idea what to make of Paige so it’d be a guaranteed great time.

Would you rather watch: Fantastic Four (2015) or a 2 hour Raw with Sheamus in every segment?

If it’s not one Thing, it’s the other.

Tim:

Sheamus has joined Big Show and Kane in The Wet Blankets. There is not a single wrestler who is more of a buzzkill than these three when I’m watching a WWE event. What makes it all worse is that Sheamus has a briefcase right now. That’s a constant fear I’m living with. Fantastic Four will be VERY boring trash but I think I could deal.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Joey:

The Fantastic Four story can be charming and Michael B. Jordan is a talented actor. I mean, I know this movie is going to suck but I can see a scenario in which there’s a zinger or two. Plus there may be some “so bad it’s good” humor factor involved. Sheamus is a very talented wrestler but he may be the worst thing in 2015. I’ve never been more dull watching a wrestler speak or wrestle this consistently for a few months. The only negative about Summerslam weekend is having to watch him for 15 minutes and worry about a potential cash-in. I can’t take 2 minutes, let alone 2 hours.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Tom:

Fantastic Four seems to be very close to Man of Steel in terms of being an extremely tedious film about superheroes without any fun elements whatsoever. I can’t deal with another Man of Steel, man. Not for another couple years. Sheamus is a bore, but the idea of an all-Sheamus Raw sounds like a fascinating experiment. Imagine how bored and restless the crowd would get! It might be perverse, but I want to experience that.

2 hour Raw with Sheamus in every segment.
