This Or That (4/15/2015)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Should John Cena bring back the “spinner” US Championship belt: Yes or No?

I’d love to see a new US title since they are pushing it harder than ever and I’ve never really liked the current design too. I’m also not a fan of Cena’s spinner belts especially now since the “spinner” fad has been dead for a while anyway. I’M NO FUN. I will say the actual strap looked awesome on Cena’s US spinner belt… so they can bring that back.

Hell yes! The title looks so bland due to the last few years of lame history associated with it. John Cena is already nearing the mark of completely saving the belt. Add a cool new but nostalgic spin (pun!) to the title. The people who will hate it likely already hate Cena so you’ll continue to get the same reaction to his matches. You’ll also send more replicas and we’ll have a cute colorful belt that separates it from the others on television. Do as much as you can to associate this belt with John Cena and the title will be better for it.

Sure, but only so Rusev can ultimately stamp it to pieces. I didn’t dislike the spinner belt, I just want to see Rusev smash stuff up.

Current better non-wrestler: Paul Heyman or Dario Cueto?

Tim:

I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with my answer for about 25 minutes now. I think they are both very important to their companies. I think at this current moment I’d say Dario Cueto is more important to Lucha Underground as a whole than Heyman is to WWE and is a very intriguing and memorable character. The guy is REALLY good and I find myself tuning in mainly for him. Paul Heyman is still a great speaker but at this moment in time he’s kind of repetitive unless it’s a pivotal moment in a storyline. There are times where he says some really screwed up stuff sometimes. That doesn’t sit well with me.

Joey:

Dario Cueto is currently the best at the non-wrestling role. Lucha Underground is the best wrestling show on television by a mile and Cueto plays a huge role in this. The backstage segments in his office are equally significant to the stellar matches in the way the program is structured so he could have easily caused the program to tank with his lack of pro wrestling experience but it’s been the opposite. Paul Heyman is great at what he does. He always has and he always will be but what Cueto does is new, more significant to the show, and is just more compelling.

Honestly, my only motivation to watch Lucha Underground has been Dario Cueto. That’s not to put down the wrestling or anything, which seems fine – Cueto just seems like a fantastic character and something genuinely new and good as far as wrestling goes (an actor who has successfully made the transition to wrestling personality without seeming completely stupid).

More likely to breakthrough: Fandango or Damien Sandow?

Tim:

It’s hard to call. I think if Sandow were to be booked well after the Mizdow stuff he could break through to the next level way faster and be more entertaining doing so than Fandango. It’s really baffling to me that he is still Mizdow. I’m still not sold on Fandango and am not sure I ever will be. I think WWE would like to get him over and there’s plenty of people who want to like him so I bet they keep trying and it’s likely to work eventually.

I’m all in on Fandango-mania, buds. The dude is talented and he has put himself into the character to the point where he was once relevant. I think he can do it again. Sandow is great but the mystery of what’s after the feud with Miz ends is difficult to forecast. He’s still “Mizdow” using Miz’s music and wearing a spoof of Miz shirts. I don’t know who he is in the grand scheme of WWE TV or what he is going to do. Fandango is a lovely man who can make wrestling fans awkwardly dance. Fandango wins.

I AM THE ORIGINAL ‘DANGO FAN. Mizdow is in a weird limbo right now – remember when Luke Gallows split off from the Straight Edge Society? It reminds me of that, he was completely defined by what he used to be that any progress seemed impossible. I think Sandow is MUCH better but they still don’t seem to have any ideas for him. Also, Miz’s moves are lame and I don’t want to see two guys doing them.

Fandango is genuinely good stuff. If they’re just banking on the dumb Fandangoing thing, then it won’t last long, but he’s got enough weird, funny charisma that I think he could become an established mid-card guy.

Which Marvel film are you more excited to see: Ant-Man or Avengers Age of Ultron?

Tim:

I’m pretty excited for both. I’m still not tired of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m going to go with Avengers: Age of Ultron because I love when the crew gets together to stop the forces of evil. Ant-Man almost won this one because Gregg Turkington being in it is one of my favorite running jokes from the last season of On Cinema. I think this will be a great role for Paul Rudd.

Ant-Man has Paul Rudd and a new unique story to film which are two things I adore but give me Avengers. For someone who never read the comics, these bigger superhero movies are still exciting for me. I loved the first Avengers movie and I have to have faith this one will have the same fun of a good ol’ Summer blockbuster. But Thor still fucking sucks. Please kill him.

Tom:

UMMM. Hmm. I’m not sure. Given how incredible 2014 was for Marvel films (I’d rank both Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy in my top three MCU movies), this year seems like it might struggle to compete. I’m not particularly interested in any of the new characters they’re introducing in Age of Ultron and it seems like Captain America: Civil War is going to be the movie that really focuses on the growing tension between characters while this will mostly deal with wham-bam action and buildings falling over.

As for Ant-Man, the humour and the action in that most recent trailer gave me some hope that it’ll be fun and at least somewhat different – it’s still SUCH a missed opportunity that they didn’t do everything they could to keep Edgar Wright onboard as director, but hopefully they didn’t completely throw out all the ideas that he brought to the project. I’m ready for new stuff with my superhero movies, so let’s go with Ant-Man.
