WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue One, Page 1

    • WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue One, Page 1

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

WCW: The Comic (Issue One, Page 1)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: “If a few necks get broken, he won’t lose any sleep over it. He’d probably laugh.”

Lex Luger: kind of a dick. As far as the art goes, Lex mostly looks like himself, which is something (although I have a sneaking suspicion that the artist just traced a promo pic).

However, what’s interesting to note about WCW: The Comic is it actually takes place in the world of wrestling. This might seem like an obvious observation, but it’s surprisingly unusual for comics about wrestlers! Usually, they end up being forced into other genres, with more popular scenarios including:

THE MEAN STREETS! (as featured in Chyna: The Comic)

SOME WEIRD FANTASY PARALLEL DIMENSION! (as featured in WWE Heroes)

A POST-APOCALYPTIC WASTELAND! (as featured in Nash)

      DESTRUCITY! (as featured in Warrior)

So just by being a wrestling comic that’s actually about wrestling, WCW: The Comic is already off to a pretty good start! You’d better prepare yourself for the next page coming on Friday though. Why? Two letters, one word:

      P.
      N.
      NEWS.

      See you then!
