This Or That (8/19/2014)
Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.
Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the
false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinionchance to join the conversation! Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:
Should the WWE champion ever be a “part time” wrestler?
Yes – 82%, No – 18%
Lower moment from Raw?
Megan Miller – 70%, “Deportlandia” – 30%
Which birthday party would you rather attend?
Billy Kidman’s – 60%, Hulk Hogan’s – 40%
More loved Robin Williams ’90s family film?
Jumanji – 53%, Mrs. Doubtfire – 47%
Who would you rather see face Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31: Roman Reigns or The Rock?
They’re cousins or something, and also two of the most likely opponents for Brock at ‘Mania, but which one would you rather see Lesnar face?
Tim:
Can I pick neither? I just don’t feel like watching either match. I do believe the right choice is to have an up-and-comer take down the monster that is Lesnar but to really maximize on it the guy would have to be able to make you sympathize with him (like Daniel Bryan…). Reigns does not have this. He hasn’t looked to good without The Shield and has not given me one reason to believe he can carry the company.
A potential match with The Rock would be excruciatingly boring but if that means Lesnar wins I say this is the way to go until you find the right person to beat Lesnar. It would be a shame to waste such a potentially huge star-making moment on someone who will flounder out.
The Rock
Joey:
I have to go with my main man The “Dwayne” Rock as the kids on the internet like to call him. These two had a match at Summerslam 2002 that was one of my favorite matches of all time. A rare match I can watch from childhood or teen years today and not feel the need to fast forward when watching.
Obviously the match wouldn’t be as good as they were both 12 years younger and active wrestlers but at least I’ve seen these two have a good match before. I’m still waiting for a very good Roman Reigns singles match. Also, Rock vs. Brock is the biggest money match WWE can do so I’ll take the spectacle with potential to be memorable over the one that’s based around hoping Reigns is the next guy and nothing more than wishful thinking.
The Rock
Tom:
I still think The Rock has another special match in him – he’s certainly not the guy I most want to see fight Brock, but I’d be interested. Meanwhile, I think Roman Reigns is a good two or three years away from being even CLOSE to capable of having a match with Lesnar that’s anything more than the snoozefests Brock had with Triple H.
The Rock
Which rising fan favorite will be more loved by this time next year: Bray Wyatt or Dean Ambrose?
Will WWE crowds in August, 2015 be wearing more fedoras or dirty hoodies and wifebeaters?
Tim:
Bray Wyatt’s character seems to be reaching a point to where they need to evolve it. It’s repetitiveness really shows you how creative has the tendency to run things into the ground. If it stays this way for much longer I see fan support dying out. Once that happens I doubt he’ll ever be able to recapture what The Wyatt Family once had. Ambrose seems like a crazy enough character that it can sustain interest for a long while.
Dean Ambrose
Joey:
This one is very interesting because last night was the coming out party for Dean Ambrose. The thing is I see a rare connection with Bray Wyatt from the live crowds and even the Twitter world when I read reaction. Ambrose in a bad program with someone boring probably would lead to fans being disappointed in his use but not overwhelming shades of Cesaro currently.
Meanwhile I’ve seen with my eyes and heard with my ears fans care about terrible matches/angles Bray Wyatt has been a part of and staying invested into it. Honestly, I’d be trying to test the waters right now to see what Bray’s potential is as possibly being the man to beat Brock Lesnar. Not turn him into a goofy babyface but let this character be itself and use the adulation fans have for him.
Bray Wyatt
Tom:
It’s a really tricky question since, given the current status of both guys, it seems like you’d have to be mad to answer Bray Wyatt. Ambrose was a complete superstar at Summerslam and on Raw, and he seems like a sure thing going forward. However, it’s so hard to know what will happen to him after a year’s worth of WWE booking. They certainly seem more invested in building Bray, even if he is still stuck in a very dull angle with Jericho right now.
However, my prediction for Wyatt is that the bloom will come off the rose in a few months. He just seems a few steps behind Ambrose in terms of being a complete package – Bray’s promos and in-ring work don’t really mesh together completely, whereas I think Ambrose’s manic persona is represented perfectly in both his interviews and his matches. He also seems like the natural successor to Punk in terms of being a cool, anti-establishment guy that people will get behind, whereas Bray can be a little more cartoony. For those reasons, I think Ambrose is gonna be the bigger guy this time next year.
Dean Ambrose
Which push do you hope this is the end of more: Jack Swagger or The Miz?
Both are annoying! Both seem to be on the downswing! Who do you want to see stay down?
Tim:
I just want The Miz to go away. If that implies that I like Swagger even a miniscule bit, then so be it but I assure you I do not and in fact think he and his gimmick are among one of the worst things about wrestling. I just dislike The Miz to an extreme.
The Miz
Joey:
I dislike The Miz more of the two wrestlers but it’s Jack Swagger here because of the gimmick. His segments with Zeb Colter have been among the worst things on wrestling this year and paints all us wrestling fans in a terrible way as the closeted bigot crowd who can easily be manipulated with buzz words and blind patriotism.
I’m hoping the Zeb character is gone for good despite doing a good job for what he was asked to do. The Miz is just a goon. Swagger’s last push represented more terrible things than an over-tan jabroni in a Snuggie.
Jack Swagger
Tom:
UMMMM. Hmm. As much as I can’t stand Miz, it is fun seeing how far his star can fall given that he was in the main event of ‘Mania just a few years ago. Like, ideally he’ll be losing to Torito in an EXTREME WeeLC match (the same as a regular WeeLC match except Miz gets hit with light tubes and a weed whacker).
As far as Swagger goes, even when he’s getting trounced by my fellow migrant heroes Cesaro and Rusev, I still find it REALLY hard to pay attention to any of the crap he’s doing. It sucks because he SHOULD be fun because he’s a big dude who can throw other dudes around, but I just can’t stand him. Get this fucker off my TV ASAP, thanks.

Better side: French fries or mac and cheese?
What do YOU like to shove in your face?
Tim:
I very rarely eat french fries but when I do they are the highlight of my whole day. I love macaroni and cheese too. I eat mac and cheese so much. So do I prefer mac and cheese, a food I never really tire of, or do I more prefer french fries, a food that I think I would tire of if I ate it as much as mac and cheese but when I do eat it I feel like I’m eating one of the greatest things in the world? And man do I love chili cheese fries. The answer is actually pretty simple.
Mac and Cheese
Joey:
I’m not ashamed to be who I am so I am publicly risking the potential of a potential heel turn for what I’m about to say. I don’t like french fries. I really don’t.
I have them once in a while but would need to kill them with condiments to mask the french fry taste. The weird thing is I LOVE POTATOES so I have no rational for my disdain for french fries. Tom can confirm as every time we have lunch or dinner, I refuse french fry combos and have given him my french fries if ever given to me free or part of a meal.
Also, mac n’ cheese is among my favorite foods in the world. Macaroni is dope and cheese is doper. It’s fun to make, fun to eat and adds some variety as you can even have delicious mac n cheese baked or with veggies. Hit the bricks, french fries.
Mac and cheese
Tom:
I can confirm that Joey is, in fact, a jabronie mark without a life who doesn’t eat french fries. It’s RIDICULOUS and embarrassing and I’m glad to finally address this issue publicly (though I do appreciate him giving me his french fries because I am 6’7″ and require more french fries than lesser human beings).
Anyway. I love mac and cheese but I only started eating it very late in life as it was not such a big deal back in the UK. French fries though (and I am distinguishing between fries and chips here) are the food of the gods, especially the skinny shoestring fries you get in a great big wooden bowl with salt and all kinds of seasoning. I could literally eat french fries all day. They’re the best. Mac and cheese might be more consistently good, but exceptional french fries are UNBEATABLE.
