This Or That (5/6/2015)

    • This Or That (5/6/2015)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Should John Cena bring back the “spinner” United States title?

      No – 63%, Yes – 37%

      Current better non-wrestler?

      Dario Cueto – 52%, Paul Heyman – 48%

      More likely to breakthrough?

Will Roman Reigns win the WWE Championship in 2015: Yes or No?

Will The Roman Empire take over this year?

      Tim:

I don’t think WWE has really changed their minds on him outside of giving him a little more time to develop. I’m still not into him but I know a lot of people have changed their minds and would probably welcome it. As of right now I still think him being the face of the company seems like a really boring path for us to be on for the next few years.

He’s been put in some good spots such as being Brock’s punching bag and getting to break tables with The Big Show. I think he’ll be champ by the end of the year for sure. I can’t help but think about how over someone would be if they had tried as hard with someone people already like and was ready for the position.

      Yes

      Joey:

If I had to predict, I think WWE is hoping to make Roman Reigns WWE Champion at Wrestlemania 32. You can tell WWE wants Reigns to be “the next guy” to take John Cena’s place and they are being careful in how they present him following the backlash after his Royal Rumble win. I think the plan is to have him win over the fans by chasing the title and falling short a few times before ultimately winning the championship at WM 32. My early guess would be Reigns defeating Cena for the title next year.

      No

      Tom:

Old Vinny Mac always ends up getting his way so I’m sure we’ll see The Powerhouse with the straps eventually. Not sure if it’ll be this year though – The Fed seems set on having title reigns go a little longer and I’d be surprised to see Rollins lose it before the year is out.

      No

Better tag team: The New Day or Cesaro and Tyson Kidd?

      Tag team wrestling. Yay.

      Tim:

I think The New Day are more entertaining now that they’re heels. All three guys seem like they’re having fun but I’m still not into it very much. They’re great wrestlers just as Kidd and Cesaro are. When Cesaro, Kidd, and Nattie come to the ring you know they mean business but they really haven’t been allowed to show much personality. One could argue that there isn’t much personality to show but I don’t believe that’s the case.

Anyway, any tag team in WWE is essentially just spinning wheels in a hole at this point. It’s given all five of these guys something to do so that’s good at least. The New Day has more of push going on right now where they get to show off their charisma so I’ve got to give it to them.

      The New Day

      Joey:

I am 100% all in on The New Day. Aside from John Cena’s fabulous United States championship challenge, New Day is the best thing on WWE television. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd are excellent but I still view them as two really good singles wrestlers that are good together. I don’t expect them to be a tag team by the end of the year. I see New Day sticking together for a few years. They’re hilarious, great wrestlers and a refreshing act. I also can’t get enough of the New Day Sucks chants. Cesaro and Kidd are better overall wrestlers but New Day is a better team.

      The New Day

      Tom:

I love The New Day and I’m delighted to see them with the belts, but Cesaro and Kidd are really pretty terrific. I trust them to have very good matches with lesser teams more than I do The New Day right now, and very good matches are in kind of short supply these days.

      Cesaro and Kidd

Where would you rather see Sami Zayn full time: RAW or NXT?

As a fan, which do you think would provide you more entertainment?

      Tim:

NXT needs Sami Zayn. Raw would be a better place with Sami Zayn. Zayn would be good anywhere. The NXT roster is a very shallow place. I think NXT has all of the makings of a great place but it’s in such a weird spot as a developmental AND a growing spin-off of the main WWE branding. The booking for the people you care about can be incredible and the matches featuring them are great but for the most part the weekly show is bland.

I’m not sure if I’m ready for Zayn to leave there because he’s part of the fun. I’m all for him making more money on the big stage and there are plenty of awesome matches for him to have there, of course… buuuuuut I am a person who can really sit down and enjoy NXT at times (outside of the awful crowd) and I don’t want that to go away yet. It’s a really weird and sometimes surreal thing that exists.

      NXT

      Joey:

No doubt in my mind Sami Zayn should be full time on the main roster right now. I’m not a big fan of NXT outside of the live specials which are basically 4-5 times a year. I would rather see him have noteworthy matches 2-3 times per month or at least have the opportunity to. Zayn is a special talent and there’s no doubt he would connect with the larger fan base. If I were to want the wrestlers to stay in a lane where artistic freedom is #1 priority, I’d never want them to leave the indies/ROH/PWG. It’s time for the next step on the ladder.

      RAW

      Tom:

Ugh, what a choice. Can I have both? Sami’s had about every match I could ever hope to see him have in NXT, whereas he’d be a much needed shot in the arm for a Daniel Bryan-less Raw. Also, Sami on Raw makes it all the more likely we’ll see Kevin Owens brutalizing him on Monday night sooner rather than later, so it’s the only option that makes sense.

      RAW

Better Netflix hit series: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt or Daredevil?

      TV.

      Tim:

I enjoyed Daredevil. It had some really entertaining moments and some great fight scenes. No bad at all really but I’m more of a comedy guy and Kimmy Schmidt nailed it. Tina Fey’s brand of writing really appeals to me. The cast was GREAT. There are a few jokes here and there that I really didn’t think were okay and kind of hurt the show’s message but it was still a really great show overall and can not wait for more. NBC really goofed by letting it get away from them.

      Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

      Joey:

Tim and I agree on comedy television way too much so basically what he said. Daredevil is already one of my favorite dramas but I am so much more of a comedy fan. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is favorite new comedy since Community. I’ve missed Tina Fey writing topical one liners more than I realized ever since 30 Rock ended but unlike 30 Rock, this show has more charm. Ellie Kemper is a star and I love this show. NBC sucks. Netflix is the best in the world.

      Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

      Tom:

I liked Daredevil a lot, though I wish it had been about half as long as it had been. The main cast was mostly great but a few of the episodes dragged on a bit. It’s still a show I’m very glad exists though, because it was starting to feel like there wasn’t ever going to be a superhero TV show I had any interest in (SHUT UP ABOUT ARROW AND FLASH, ASSHOLES). Hopefully the next few Netflix Marvel shows improve on it and also include The Punisher.

Kimmy Schmidt was great from start to finish. It wasn’t perfect but it was miles funnier than any other show I’ve seen this year (SHUT UP ABOUT THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, I’LL WATCH THAT EVENTUALLY, ASSHOLES).

      Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
