    Brad Ward’s Podcast Adventures: WasimCast (8/13/2015)

    Our friend and favorite wrestling superfan Brad Ward has dipped his toe into the world of podcasting and TJ Hawke is here to recap the astonishing results. Take it away, TJ!

    Brad Ward, noted Cesaro cosplayer, is one of the premiere content providers on Twitter Dot Com. However, anyone with good sense knows that you must diversify your brand in order to stay streets ahead or you risk becoming a jabroni mark.

    If you’re a jabroni mark, your banter suffers. When your banter suffers, your numbers go down. When your numbers go down, your brand is left in tatters. You might as well just jump off a bridge or sign a contract with TNA at that point.

    Brad has wisely decided to jump into the Wrestling Podcast Game as it looks like it’s going to stick around for a while. What follows is a rundown of Brad Ward giving this WasimCast gimmick the rub by appearing on their pitiful podcast.

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

    Hold on tight because we’re fixing to name The Sexy Wrestler of The Week! Can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday we were not naming The Sexy Wrestler of The Week and yet here we are. We are absolutely naming The Sexy Wrestler of The Week today. Wow!

    It’s super hot outside but there’s definitely something hotter in our future. It’s that time of the week again! The Sexy Wrestler of The Week will be named! I’ve counted your votes and it was a thrill ride. Every single one of them brought an extreme joy to my heart.

    You would have to be dead to not agree with the winner this week. This could the first win in another streak for this man! I’m hinting at the winner here you dipshit.

    Oh, also… he played Blanche’s boyfriend in an episode of Golden Girls. It was probably one of the greatest wrestling/comedy crossovers ever but many people don’t remember it. I dug up a screenshot for you, the lovely readers.

    The Undertaker is The Sexy Wrestler of The Week! Do you remember his Wrestlemania streak? That was quite the accomplishment but NOTHING compares to being voted the sexiest wrestler. I’m sure The Dead Man is riding his hog down an empty road right now while reflection on what brought him to this huge moment.

    * There have been some rumblings in recent months that Vince McMahon isn’t particularly fond of United States President Barack Obama, basically saying “he’s bad for business.”

    The latest issue of Power Slam magazine sheds some more light on McMahon’s opinion of him, including a behind the scenes story from last year in which WWE television producer Kevin Dunn reprimanded anyone he saw wearing clothing or merchandise in support of the Democratic President-elect.

    Here is what was written: “Dunn’s philosophical overlap with Vince extends beyond wrestling.

    Like the WWE Chairman, Dunn is an ultra-conservative Republican who supported George W. Bush. In 2004, Dunn earned Vince’s compliments when he proudly flouted company policy to wear a giant “Bush/Cheney 2004″ badge to work on the day after the election. In 2008, creative team sources allege that Dunn, ironically, had anyone who wore clothing or merchandise related to the Democratic President-elect formally reprimanded by the company. Meanwhile, sources backstage report overhearing McMahon and Dunn discussing how Obama’s policies will so badly damage America’s ecomony that periodic cuts in WWE personnel will be required in order for the company to continue to pay their multi-million-dollar executive salaries and stock dividends.”

    Wednesday Night Wars: August 5, 2015

    There’s a lot of wrestling on Wednesday nights.

    Every week, @JoeySplashwater will attempt to watch as much of the wrestling programs on Wednesday night as he can. There will be a short recap of each program followed by the pick for Match of the Night, Performer of the Night and who won the Wednesday Night Wars?

    Basic show. Same as usual. I wish they would get better jobbers if every episode is going to be enhancement matches galore. I miss CJ Parker. Charlotte vs. Bayley was disappointing considering the reputations of both but the road to TakeOver: Brooklyn for Bayley is a great story. Samoa Joe vs. Rhyno was just there.

    Kevin Owens and Finn Balor delivered promos to set up a Ladder Match at TakeOver which has given the show a great feel going into it. The announcement of Jushin Liger facing Tyler Breeze was made and there was a nice video. TakeOver: Brooklyn looks very good but the TV show was lackluster. Same old story.

    This Or That (8/6/2015)

    Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

    Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

    Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

    Who has had more great matches in WWE?

    Brock Lesnar – 67%, Undertaker – 33%

    More unlikeable on-screen couple?

    Dolph Ziggler and Lana – 88%, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H – 12%

    Which show will be better?

    Ultima Lucha – 76%, NXT TakeOver Brooklyn – 24%

    Which is better?

    Peanut butter – 58%, Jelly – 42%

    Who needs a win more at Summerslam: Brock Lesnar or Seth Rollins?

    I’d prefer both of these people win their matches at Summerslam but Seth Rollins can take the loss and eventually bounce back. His character needs to evolve some anyway. Being the dominant beast who beat the Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak is such a huge part of Lesnar’s character that that having The Undertaker get his win back from Brock Lesnar would be such a huge goof-up.

    I always thought the big conclusion to Lesnar’s WWE run would be a young star making his name by being the one who brought down the man who broke the streak and ran roughshod over everyone he faced afterwards. Wasting this potential moment on The Undertaker seems nearsighted and dull. The Undertaker doesn’t need the win and the match won’t be anything to talk about. You’re killing the very special momentum of one of your biggest attractions for nothing.

    While it would be damaging to Seth Rollins if he loses multiple times to John Cena and has his title reign end at Summerslam, I think Brock Lesnar needs the win more. If Rollins loses the match and the title, what really changes for him? Regardless, he will be the #1 heel in the company. If Lesnar loses, part of the magic of his rare appearances will be gone. It started when he defeated Undertaker and it would end if he loses back. Brock is the coolest thing WWE has had in years and you can’t sacrifice ruining that in this scenario.

    I’d like to play the contrarian here but Brock losing to old man Undertaker would be a colossal bummer. Seth’s run so far has already had a fair amount of nonsense so I don’t think a Cena loss is going to hurt him too badly, though obviously it’d be nice if he retains. However, if Brock loses to your dad… man, that’ll look pretty ridiculous for everyone.

    Pro Wrestling NOAHtry: TJ Tries Again

    Pro Wrestling NOAH was once a proud wrestling promotion in Japan. They never really recovered though after the in-ring death of Mitsuharu Misawa though and have been in a decline ever since. They are now being run by the red-hot NJPW, and the Suzuki-gun stable from NJPW has been doing a hostile-takeover of the product.

    With all that said, it’s time to drum up some excitement for NOAH. What better way to do that than with poetry, by legendary artist, TJ Hawke.

    Note from Tom: Heya, I’m back. Once again, Ilyass is the only true legendary artist round these parts. Regardless of all that though, TJ tried another poem. Frankly, it’s no better than the first. I understand it’s important to be supportive but we really should draw a line at some point, you know? Anyway, sorry about this.

    The next match looked at is Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima

    Sabre Junior loves the beer.
    Doesn’t mind when women leer.

    Nakajima kicks him in the head.
    But he’s boring like The Walking Dead.

    Booing Zack is strange behavior.
    He should be NOAH’s savior.

    Nakajima was the winner.
    The booker, Jado, is a sinner.

    Match had no flipping, back rakes.
    That’s why it’s only three flakes.

    • Wade Barrett keeps telling WWE creative that he lost his crown in hopes of getting a gimmick change but someone always finds it in the garbage. 

     

    • Sources say Ronda Rousey will be mentioned during Steve Austin‘s podcast with Paige once or twice. Or twenty.

     

    • With Cesaro gaining some momentum with fans the call has already been made to keep him out of the 2016 Royal Rumble just in case.

    • After having many contract extensions signed without his consent, Bram finally realized Joseph Park is not a real lawyer.

    Wednesday Night Wars: July 29, 2015

    NXT

    As always, NXT was full of mostly enhancement matches and filler. The highlight of the show was the tag team of Chad Gable and Jason Jordan getting another win. This may be the first “NXT made” male act that takes off. Gable stands out and looks impressive in these short matches – a feat very rare for most on the roster.

    I like the tag team of Blake and Murphy with Alexa Bliss as their manager. She has raised her value without harming the wrestlers she’s managing which is the key to any person in that spot. The tag match main event itself was adequate. Charlotte vs. Dana Brooke was weak. Kevin Owens destroying Martin Stone was a good time as always. Not a noteworthy show but nothing too bad.

    Grade: C
