1. What do you think is the most relevant moment in pro wrestling post Attitude Era?
TJP:
I think Hulk Hogan changing course and joining the nWo has to be the most single relevant moment in wrestling history, generally speaking. However, after that era though, I might go with Wrestlemania 17. I think Mania returning to a large scale venue that year was a precursor to that being the goal every year from that point on, except of course for the 3 special ones in notable big cities like Chicago, LA and Mania 20 in MSG. Having that goal set, created a bar to reach every year that couldn’t be accomplished without wrestling in general maintaining and growing a social mainstream presence. I think because of this, major league wrestling around the world has maintained a steady growth in scale relative to where they were in the past whether it be WWE, TNA, or say New Japan.
Corbin:
The night John Cena got drafted to Raw. When he walked out as the hottest draft pick that was the first major name player to actually be drafted he changed the wrestling landscape. The whole the “Champ is Here” served as foreshadow to how long he would actually be around and that he was given the ball to run with it. Since then, he has been the top star to lead a new era of fans and he has always been featured in the top and has been the “Superman” for the kids as their hero. While there has been others, time will tell how lasting and monumental the shift will actually be.
Marseglia:
This can be many things but I believe the Invasion was well after that Attitude Era. I think that was a pretty big deal in professional wrestling around after the Attitude Era and the brands splitting shortly afterwards was interesting in terms of wondering where everyone was going to end up. And when the brands split, everyone looked forward to the draft, but as I said previously there are many relevant moments.
Jordan:
Wow tough question. I think the fact that they’re finally elevating new talent and giving them the opportunity to prove they belong. Guys like Punk, Bryan, Ziggler are potentially the future of the business long after guys like Cena are gone. But I also think the opening of the new WWE Performance center is going to greatly enhance the next generation of superstars. That or it could hurt it by making everyone a cookie cutter mold of the typical “WWE guy.”
2. What was your favorite childhood cartoon?
TJP:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don’t know why, probably because I would see it every morning before school or something. I also liked that the group was created pretty equally so you could switch who your favorite turtle was on a daily basis without looking like too much of a weenie depending on who you chose… except maybe Donatello.
Corbin:
I was a huge fan of Beavis and Butthead. In the town that I grew up in, they found MTV to be so offensive for kids that they ended up taking away the channel and people had to petition to get it back on the air. Because I felt that it was due to B & B that they took it away, amongst other favorites, I thought it was edgy and cool to be a fan of it.
Also, when we got the channel back, I figured it was because of me and like minded people like me that made it happen. We were the unique individuals who rebelled against society and won. But then when we got MTV back, it wasn’t as cool and Beavis and Butthead were canceled. Oh well.
Marseglia:
My all time favorite cartoon was definitely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Collected all the cartoon figures and such as well. Was Raphael for Halloween when I was about 6 years old so no explanation really other than the Ninja Turtles are awesome. My least favorite cartoon that many seemed to enjoy was ThunderCats. No particular reason other than I just could not get into it at all.
Jordan:
As an 80’s kid I was spoiled by awesome cartoons. I was able to watch GI Joe, He Man, Ninja Turtles, X-Men, etc but my favorite would have to be The Real Ghostbusters. I even bought the box set a few years back. Maybe one day I’ll finally watch them!
3. What is your favorite 4th of July memory?
TJP:
Playing night time basketball pickup games when I was younger with fireworks in the sky. Basketball was a huge part of my life growing up and still is to this day.
Corbin:
I am a huge tubing fan; behind a boat not down the river. And I remember being on the lake, sun reflecting off the water, and my dad trying to churn up waves so big to kill me. I used to see how long I could hang on, and normally it took until a few wipeouts until the day was done. However, the most memorable moments are those that hurt the worst. So the wipeouts that resulted in the most air or the hardest splash on the waves. But being back on the lake tubing are some of my favorite memories of July 4th.
Marseglia:
My mom and dad always threw the best parties for the holiday. This particular one had EVERYONE attending family, friends, neighbors and friends of friends. Tons of fireworks entertainment , competitive basketball games that usually took place at all our 4th parties. This one specific year the party lasted almost through the night. It was a great night to see all the family come together.
A funny moment at that party was my grandmother’s new husband was at the very top of our stair case and at the top was our family dogs squeak toy. He is a very large man close to 500lbs and he took one step on the squeak toy it let out the longest squeak as it was gasping for air and he went down the entire flight of stairs head first on his stomach. Now at first of course we were hoping the poor guy was ok but once he announced he was, it was definitely the highlight of the night.
Jordan:
I’ve had so many great Fourth of July memories but I think either spending time in upper peninsula Michigan camping or spending it in Las Vegas. Vegas is crazy as is but being there for the fourth takes it up a notch.
4. Describe your perfect pizza and least favorite pizza.
TJP:
Meat lovers, thick crust is perfect. A pizza with everything on it is too much for me. I tend to be very plain with decorating my food, generally speaking.
Corbin:
I am very simplistic when it comes to pizza and most think that the unique combinations lead to the best pizza. (As if they are the first to discover you could put chicken on pizza). Call me boring, but I love Canadian bacon on my pizza. I don’t like to crowd it with unnecessary toppings or try and think I’m revolutionary because I added a garden to my meal.
My least forever pizza is the flat, frozen kind that you get at the store that adds all sorts of pesto and replaces cheese with a different kind of organic cheese that doesn’t taste like anything other than cardboard.
Marseglia:
The perfect pizza for me would be large pizza stuffed crust! Pizza Hut style stuffed crust, of course. For toppings the obvious pepperoni and cheese with mushrooms and peppers are a must for my pizza all the time! I’ll eat any pepperoni and cheese pizza and obviously who wouldn’t? But that would be my all time favorite.
WORST scenario pizza… hmm, I always disliked ham and pineapple pizza. I believe they call it a Hawaiian? ALWAYS hated when with friends or at a party and that pizza would be ordered. Actually, that’s the only pizza I probably won’t eat unless I was really hungry. I love fruit a lot, but the thought of it on my pizza disgusts me. I’m also not a fan of bacon or anchovies on my pizza.
Jordan:
I went to boarding school in Wisconsin. At the time, stuffed crust pizza was really popular. Kids used to order Pizza Hut every night after study hall and then sell the leftover slices to cover the cost. Living in Manhattan there’s only one Pizza Hut that sells stuffed crust so I would have to say that on the rare occasion I have it, stuffed crust pepperoni is my favorite. Also, I have to mention Lou Malnati’s. It’s based in Chicago and It’s real Chicago deep dish pizza that you can actually order anywhere in the world. Even out of the oven it tastes amazing! My least favorite would be anchovies. Never tried them but don’t think I’d be a fan
