WWE Elimination Chamber 2014 Preview and Predictions

    • WWE Elimination Chamber 2014 Preview and Predictions

Elimination Chamber is on Sunday. It’s the last PPV before Wrestlemania, the WWE Network and Hulkamania are here. The PPV poster below is very real. Honestly.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @typicalROHfan, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlackett.

Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Ryback and Curtis Axel (Pre-show match)

      typicalROHfan:

Poor Cody. Poor Dustin. Poor sponsors hoping the pre-show sells the PPV.

      Interest Level: 2/10
      Prediction: Cody and Goldie wins.

      Tim:

Not sure why Goldust and Cody have to deal with this. Not sure why my eyes do either.

      Interest Level: 1/10
Prediction: Ryback and Curtis Axel win.

      Tom:

I’m always a little taken aback by the matches they choose to have on the pre-show, and never moreso than this one. Has Goldust done something dreadful backstage or on social media? Not that they’re being buried, but nothing screams ‘OUT OF THE PICTURE’ more than a feud with Ryback and/or Curtis Axel (as CM Punk could testify to).

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: Los Rhodes Bros win.

      Titus O’Neil vs. Darren Young
      typicalROHfan:

Oy vey. Titus has been in horrible segments involving Michael Strahan and vomiting. WWE clearly likes him more. He has to win.

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Titus O’Neil wins.

      Tim:

Well, there’s little to care about here. A guy turned on his team mate and then started being a bad guy. I’m guessing O’Neil wins here since they have been focusing on him way more.

      Interest Level: 1/10
      Prediction: Titus O’Neil wins.

      Tom:

Shades of the Shad Gaspard and JTG match at Extreme Rules 2010 that put an exclamation point on the incredible Cryme Tyme break-up. Wait, is that racist? Am I racist? Is WWE racist? Have there been any other break-up PPV matches from the past few years that were as meaningless as this one and didn’t feature an African-American team? If so, please let me know and I’ll amend my answer.

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Titus O’Neil wins.

Big E vs. Jack Swagger for the Intercontinental Championship

      typicalROHfan:

WWE having Zeb yell over matches on mic is more insulting and “disruptive to the guys in the ring working hard” than anything the fans can chant. Hopefully that garbage was a one time thing on RAW. This match could be solid but the ceiling not being very high and the road to this match not being well done, it’s hard to expect anything noteworthy.

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: Big E wins.

      Tim:

Hopefully Zeb goes a more traditional route if he wants to talk during a match this time. I don’t really feel like this has had very good build-up at all and I could not care less about Jack Swagger but for some reason he gets the title shot. Big E. could be utilized way better than he is, especially since he is a champion.

      Interest Level: 2/10
Prediction: Big E. retains The Intercontinental Championship.

      Tom:

I really enjoy Zeb Colter and I’d be very happy if he was on commentary (if only to drown out the white noise of annoyance that comes from the usual gang of idiots), but the loudspeaker deal’s not so great. I like Big E and Swagger’s… well, Swagger’s Swagger. Not expecting an awful lot from this but certainly not dreading it.

      Interest Level: 4/10
      Prediction: Big E wins.

The New Age Outlaws vs. The Usos for the Tag Team Championship

      typicalROHfan:

I didn’t mind The New Age Outlaws being on a few RAW episodes and even getting that last title shot but seeing them EVERY week and being the tag champs, even if only for a month or two, has worn out its welcome for me. I think the Outlaws keep the straps until Wrestlemania.

      Interest Level: 4/10
      Prediction: New Age Outlaws win.

      Tim:

The New Age Outlaws have wore out their welcome a long time ago. There’s nothing you can say to me to make me feel like they should have ever won the titles in 2014. The one or twice a year returns for them was already pushing it. I am all for The Usos getting the straps at any time so hopefully that works out here. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening yet.

      Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: The New Age Outlaws retain The WWE Tag Team Championship.

      Tom:

I’m done with the Outlaws. Just done. If they were showing up on NXT as the two deluded old vets who want to show these young rookies a thing or two, then that’s one thing. The idea that they’re showing up on Raw and PPVs as the two deluded old vets who want to show these main roster guys a thing or two and are SUCCEEDING… well, that’s less good I remember feeling so positive about the state of the tag division a couple of months ago, and now all that good feeling’s pretty much been lost. I like The Usos a whole bunch and I’m sure they’ll do their best, but it’s hard to be too excited for this.

      Interest Level: 4/10
      Prediction: New Age Outlaws win.

      Batista vs. Alberto Del Rio

      typicalROHfan:

      Go home, Batista.

Interest Level: 2/10 (+2 for fans potentially booing Batista)
Prediction: Batista wins. (No one wins.)

      Tim:

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Drax The Destroyer wins.

      Tom:

I DON’T CARE. So never mind this – did you guys see the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer? It’s pretty great!

If Batista comes out in green bodypaint to ‘Hooked on a Feeling’, then maybe this will be fun. MAYBE.

      Interest Level: 1/10
      Prediction: Batista wins.

The Wyatt Family vs. The Shield

      typicalROHfan:

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: The Wyatt Family wins.

      Tim:

I was hoping this would happen at Wrestlemania. Then I was hoping it would happen in The Elimination Chamber, but looking at how well WWE has been doing at pleasing people we should just be happy they thought to have this match at all. With The Shield on the outs there is really only one choice for who gets the win.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: The Wyatt Family wins.

      Tom:

This has to be great, right? It sucks that they don’t take advantage of the Chamber to give it a War Games feel, but the build for this has been terrific and the clash of all the personalities is really exciting.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: The Wyatt Family wins.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Sheamus vs. Christian vs. Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Championship

      typicalROHfan:

The build for this match has been pretty cool with all the impressive singles matches on television. I’m hoping for something noteworthy happening but I’m not exactly sure what. With Batista guaranteed a Wrestlemania title shot, it seems farfetched to pull him out of the match so we’re stuck with him which makes things less fun.  Sigh.

I can’t see the match not being amazing on the positive side. Expect Cesaro to steal the show. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was in the final three with Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton.

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the Elimination Chamber match. Batista leaves as champion.

      Tim:

I’m pretty excited for this match-up. The build has given us some great matches so this should be pretty entertaining. Randy Orton needs the win here and I believe that is what we’ll get. That’s really all I have to say about this one. To recap: Should be entertaining.

      Interest Level: 10/10
Prediction: Randy Orton retains The WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

      Tom:

I was going to make the point that this is the first time we’ve had just the one Chamber match on a show for years… until I realised that we only had one last year as well. OH WELL. Having said that, the 2013 match was for the Smackdown title and had Jack Swagger winning so I’m not sure it counts.

Anyway! Extremely excited for this. If I was playing fantasy booker, I might have swapped out Sheamus for Mark Henry, but hey, whatever – it just means that Cesaro will be solely responsible for all the incredible feats of strength performed with the UNBREAKABLE LEXAN™ GLASS.

I’m guessing there will be a good amount of tomfoolery with run-ins and distractions as the match goes on. It even seems possible that we’ll see Christian swapped out for someone else – Brock Lesnar’s been suspiciously absent in recent weeks, and as much as I’d like to see Christian in this, the idea of Brock in there would be pretty incredible. I just don’t know, man! Hopefully it all works out and we get a PPV finish that doesn’t leave a bad taste in the mouth.

      Interest Level: 10/10
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the Elimination Chamber match.
