WWE Battleground 2015 Preview and Predictions

    • WWE Battleground 2015 Preview and Predictions

The main events Tom and Joey wish they were getting at Summerslam.

Wade Barrett vs. R-Truth in a Battle for the Crown

      Joey:

Wade Barrett desperately needs to lose this to have any chance of being relevant again. I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news! (Get it???) Barrett is probably going to win this and continue being the goofy dude in a crown.

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: Wade Barrett wins.

      Tim:

Wade Barrett is a goof right now as the King of The Ring. He’ll probably always be booked as a goof at this point but hopefully this match was made to get him out of the gimmick. Realistically, this match was probably made to give him something to do and give him a win. I don’t care too much about this match.

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: Wade Barrett wins.

      Tom:

My goodness, what a way to start the show. I’m going to go against the grain here and say that Truth gets the win so he can continue doing his wacky king character to give him something to do, whereas Barrett can drop it and just do his best to go back to how things were before all this mess. Unlikely, but I think it’d be better for everybody.

      Interest Level: 2/10
      Prediction: R-Truth wins.

Prime Time Players vs. New Day for the Tag Team Championship

      Joey:

I believe last month’s title change was a way to portray that Titus O’Neil and Darren Young are a noteworthy tag team in the division with the surprise win. Expect the belts to change hands back here and New Day to regain their place on top of the tag division. They’ve been too entertaining to take the loss. I’d assume New Day vs. Lucha Dragons are the Summerslam match.

      Interest Level: 5/10
      Prediction: New Day wins.

      Tim:

I really think New Day needs the tag team championship back for Summerslam. I find Titus O’Neil entertaining but the Prime Time Players just aren’t that entertaining to watch wrestle. I think they’ll lose here. Maybe this will be an okay match but I don’t have much faith in it pulling me in.

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: New Day wins.

      Tom:

I’m also making the assumption that New Day will win. I’d much rather this just be Kofi, Xavier and Big E all fighting Mark Henry with the Prime Time Players on commentary, because I much prefer hearing Titus than watching him grapple. Also, I still love Mark Henry.

      Interest Level: 4/10
      Prediction: New Day wins.

      Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

      Joey:

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Randy Orton wins.

      Tim:

      Nah. I’m good.

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Randy Orton wins.

      Tom:

Just thinking about this makes me feel like crying.

      Interest Level: No/10
      Prediction: Please, no.

      Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt

      Joey:

I know the rumor is Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at Summerslam but I just can’t see that happening. Even though he’s become a joke, Bray Wyatt does seem to be respected as a special act by management (see getting a match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania) so for him to lose one match and be done with his most important feud in a matter of a few weeks seems impossible. I’m expecting some sort of weird finish that has Wyatt win while protecting Reigns. Maybe Luke Harper helps or Wyatt does some voodoo before Reigns wins the rematch at Summerslam.

      Interest Level: 5/10
      Prediction: Bray Wyatt wins.

      Tim:

This seems like another loss for Bray Wyatt to me and then they’ll just keep pushing on with him as a spectacle despite him being a constant loser. I just don’t see them letting Reigns lose here or any time soon. This’ll be a bore. I’m sure they’ll set up some spots to show Reigns is a real good and intense wrestler as usual.

      Interest Level: 0/10
      Prediction: Roman Reigns wins.

      Tom:

I really don’t have anything to say about this! It’s like every other Bray Wyatt feud, you know? I also think it’s far from over, sorry lads.

      Interest Level: 2/10
      Prediction: Bray Wyatt wins.

John Cena vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship

      Joey:

This is going to be good. Likely very good. I don’t see WWE ending the John Cena United States Championship Challenge thing yet as it results in great TV and has helped so many talent debut or build their stock back up. My prediction is Cena wins and goes on to a triple threat with Rusev and Cesaro at Summerslam or maybe a Fatal 4 with Owens in the mix.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: John Cena wins.

      Tim:

I’d love for Owens to get a clean win here considering this is the final match in the trilogy but YEAH RIGHT. The U.S. Open Challenge continues to be the greatest part of Raw and an easy way to set up feuds but I figure it’s about time to move on. The inclusion of Cesaro and Rusev in this story has been neat so I see them costing Owens the win in some way. I’m really excited for this match as I’m sure Cena and Owens will go all out once again.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: John Cena wins.

      Tom:

It’ll be a while before I rank my interest level for any Owens / Cena match as anything lower than 10/10. Even though their previous bouts have been packed, they’ve managed to steer away from doing any gimmick matches or resort to brawling outside the ring or anything, so there’s plenty left for them to do.

Also, the addition of Cesaro and Rusev into the US Title picture is interesting – I’m assuming they’ll be involved in a run-in here, just to give Kev an escape from losing clean (and potentially give a reason for a multi-man match to happen at Summerslam so Kev can win the title without Cena having to be pinned). Anyway! Storyline stuff aside, this should be terrific stuff.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: John Cena wins.

Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Championship

      Joey:

This is going to be incredible. Seth Rollins is the perfect opponent for Brock Lesnar to throw around. Brock Lesnar is the perfect opponent for Seth Rollins to use his moveset against. Their interactions at the Royal Rumble made for spectacular pro wrestling and I’m expecting nothing short of a MOTYC here. With the Undertaker rumors, I think Brock Lesnar wins the title and Undertaker returns to stare him down as the show ends. I’m very excited because I have zero confidence in any prediction for this.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: Brock Lesnar wins.

      Tim:

These two are going to have a hell of a match. It’s going to be really fun to watch Lesnar have a high profile match with someone of Rollins’ size and agility. Rollins hasn’t has a great title reign despite being incredible as the weasel-like heel champion but this should cap off the run really nice. I could go into some heavy and ridiculous fantasy booking for how Undertaker (and, for the hell of it, Sting) could fit in here but most likely it’s just going to be the old post-match stare-down.

WAIT. No. Change of plans here so I will probably be really wrong in one of my predictions: Undertaker costs Lesnar the win. Rollins retains. Rollins vs Triple H at Summerslam. Triple H leaves Summerslam as the WWE Heavyweight Champion and holds it until Wrestlemania. Hell overtakes Earth.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: Seth Rollins wins.

      Tom:

Brock’s still great but I think the build to this has been kinda lacking, as I’m less excited to see the match now than I was before it was officially announced. I think it’ll be extremely good, but all The Authority stuff has been a drag to sit through for the most part. Photoshops of Kane and all that, good lord. Anyway, Brock getting a more agile, younger guy to work with should be a treat. Like the others, I really don’t know what to expect from this, which is exciting! I just hope they don’t give Brock the Ambrose treatment and have him engaging in wacky antics every time we see him.

      Interest Level: 8/10
      Prediction: Seth Rollins wins.
