Wrestlemania On Earth: Wrestlemania 31 Card Predictions

Wrestlemania season is underway as we get ready for the Royal Rumble. The guys try to predict the WM card.

Site members @JoeySplashwater, @TomBlargh and @TimWelcomed give their (un)educated guesses on what the card will be for Wrestlemania 31.

Joey predicts the Wrestlemania 31 card

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship

With the aftermath of how things went after deciding to go with Daniel Bryan over Batista, I think WWE will stay the course this year and go with its dream match of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns. Rumors say this has been the plan since last April. I unfortunately don’t see enough to change my expectation of this being the main event.

  • Triple H vs. Sting

This one is fairly obvious at this point and would be the most sure bet. Maybe something is on the line like winner gets to run RAW or maybe it’s just a personal feud. Sting likely to replace The Undertaker this year as the legacy HOF star wrestling on a rare occasion in his first WWE match.

  • John Cena vs. Rusev

John Cena defending America vs. the anti-American heel seems like the way they’ll have to go if Cena isn’t facing Brock Lesnar or Seth Rollins. What other heel is left? I think it would work well. I mean, the USA vs. Rusev storyline worked with Jack Swagger of all people. I can’t imagine Cena not playing that card well.

  • Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton

If Randy Orton is ever respected as a top star, he has to face Seth Rollins in his return. If not, he’ll look very bad. This isn’t the Rollins match I want but I’m expecting it. I see Orton returning at the Rumble to stop Rollins from cashing in after he loses his triple threat match.

  • Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus

Last year, the alleged match for Daniel Bryan was to be vs. a returning heel Sheamus. With Sheamus out on the shelf and the situation basically repeating itself, I think this will be an ego pick of sorts to show this plan would have been better all along. These two have had tremendous chemistry so the match would be cool but man, would it deflate the air from Wrestlemania excitement at the time.

  • Bray Wyatt vs. Dolph Ziggler

There’s one spot open in my card and I think Bray Wyatt has to be in it as he’d get lost in a battle royal atmosphere. If Undertaker doesn’t return for a match with Bray (I can’t imagine ‘Taker returning for a match that wouldn’t be main event level), maybe Dolph Ziggler gets rewarded with a singles match for all the great work he’s done in the last month or two? If not, maybe a triple threat with other Wyatt Family members.

  • Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella vs. Paige vs. AJ Lee in some weird Lumberjill Match

Paige, AJ and the Bellas actually have fan bases so I’d expect this to be the Divas match? In a perfect world, it would be AJ vs. Stephanie McMahon! That’s the Reality Era we deserve.

  • The Miz vs. Damien Sandow

I’m expecting Sandow to refuse to eliminate himself after Miz gets eliminated in the Royal Rumble. Betting on a storyline to last that long in WWE is tough but you assume they have to do something with how hot this act is? Consider this the pre-show match.

  • Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Cesaro will be first eliminated.

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship

These are always a weird thing to do, since they’re part fantasy booking and part guesswork at what old Vince Junior could possibly be thinking. I really don’t think a Bryan / Lesnar main event is particualrly likely, especially given the assumption that this’ll be Brock’s last time in a WWE ring for a while, but… man, I really don’t wanna see Reigns / Lesnar AT ALL, so I’m daring to dream to believe.

  • Triple H vs. Sting

One of the last true dream matches we’ve all been waiting for! Under-who? I doubt it’ll be particularly good and I’m PRAYING it doesn’t go too long, but the entrances will be fun (assuming The Stinger gets to use his old theme, or that rad orchestrated version of it they had for the videogame trailer).

  • The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt

I’m assuming Undertaker’s coming back, even in spite of the distressing rumours Fred Durst has been spreading about his condition, and a match with Bray Wyatt would make the most sense (assuming The Vigilante Sting is too busy with Triple H). Will it be good? Jesus, I don’t know.

  • Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose

Kind of going out on a limb here, but I think an Ambrose heel turn is imminent. He’s getting a good reaction from a WWE audience that’s been deprived of a CM Punk-type character, but I think he’s still a little weak as a face, whereas he could be really exceptional as a singles heel. Reigns should be kept away from the main event scene for a good while longer and working with Ambrose should help The Fake Big Dog (I AM THE REAL BIG DOG) improve.

  • John Cena vs. Rusev

Another one that seems very likely, though big laffs at the idea that this would be for the U.S. Championship.

  • Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton

Gives them something to do, keeps them busy.

  • Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus for the Intercontinental Championship

Gives them something to do, keeps them busy.

  • Some Thing with all the Divas

Gives them something to do, keeps them busy.

  • The Miz vs. Damien Sandow

I have no idea what a face Damien Sandow will do once he’s shed the stunt double gimmick but hey, hopefully it’s a good laugh.

  • Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Not a clue who’d win this (Luke Harper, maybe?) but I’ll concur with my main man Joey on the notion that further Cesaro humiliation seems likely.

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan

Another Wrestlemania means another prediction post where I refuse to put down that Daniel Bryan is doing anything but coming out of the show as the face of the WWE. Honestly, Reigns in a match against anyone (especially in the main event spot for the title) sounds dull to me. Bryan coming off of an injury and the stepping into the ring with Lesnar sounds somewhat scary to me but the match I wanted the most out of Lesnar’s return is right here.

I really think it could be something special. Bryan gets his match for a title he never lost. He beats the man that beat The Undertaker’s streak. He leaves Wrestlemania as the champion and arguably the number one guy in WWE. Dreaming hard here, I know. I’d also take Rollins vs Bryan or Cena vs Bryan for the title here. I’ll try to do less dream booking for the rest of these… (yeah, not really)

  • Triple H vs. Sting

This one seems like a sure thing at this point. Sting isn’t that great at this point in his career so I was hoping for a retirement match with a little more spectacle but here we are. I remember a rumor that WWE was looking into Sting being the Raw GM or something like that. Sounds horrendous but I can see that being the outcome of this match. Triple H and The Authority dethroned and Sting takes the GM spot but the booking never changes so who gives a crow’s ass? Not I. I’d rather he have a final match and then disappear.

  • The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt

Here is one that’ll be no good. I don’t think Undertaker should come back unless it’s some crazy match and he retires. Honestly, a Sting/Undertaker match where the lights go off and come back on to nothing but a black baseball bat and an urn sitting on the ring signifying those two are gone forever sounds better than this. I think Undertaker will be there this year and this match makes the WWE kind of sense in that it’s two spooky people so they must fight.

I’m not sure why they would do this over a Sting vs ‘Taker match but to question anything they do is usually pointless. It isn’t like either math would or will deliver. Maybe Wyatt going over him will help the state of Bray Wyatt for a short while but I’m really starting to see the Bray Wyatt character as a dead-end under the current WWE creative team’s awful hands. Even if they had done the best thing and saved the streak for a promising young talent to conquer, I don’t think the Wyatt character as it is would’ve gotten the best mileage out of that honor.

  • John Cena vs. Rusev

I see this one as highly likely. It works and I’m fine with it but you know the build-up is going to a painful thing to listen to. Here’s to hoping Rusev losing to Cena doesn’t tale the wind out of his sails too much. I think it would be funny for Cena to be the US champion.

  • Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton

This seems like a natural fit for the two but I would have love for them to get back to the Rollins/Ambrose feud in time for Wrestlemania. Orton hasn’t entertained me much in a long time and Seth Rollins could steal the show with almost anyone else. Oh well.

  • Dolph Ziggler vs. Wade Barrett

Now we are getting into the part of the card where I throw things together and hope I can make sense of it! I’m just going to say Wade Barrett stays stuck in IC title hell until Wrestlemania and this will be when Ziggler unfortunately has to win it back.

  • Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus

Sheamus should be back soon. If he is a heel he can lose to Reigns here while Triple H watches with tears in his eyes backstage.

  • Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust

This will finally happen. Put an end to this and leave the thoughts of what Stardust could have been behind this.

  • Team Brie vs. Team Nikki

Brie reveals she was really still a good person all along. In order to fit all of the Divas on the card they do a have teams. That sort of thing.

  • The Big Show and Kane vs Ryback and Erick Rowan

I feel like WWE wants these people on the card somewhere. I don’t.

  • The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose will be the final two. Dean Ambrose will win by the skin of his teeth.
