WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Two

    • WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Two

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

      WCW: The Comic (Issue Two)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: The never-ending nightmare of the WCW comic returns! We’ll get started properly with the first page on Wednesday, but for now, let’s just drink in the beauty of the cover. Take note of the promises made about what this issue holds in store for us:

Oh my god, pinfalls!?!?! I can’t wait!

There’s another amazing inset picture of Sting doing his signature ‘stick ’em up’ pose:

Please take note of the (TM) as well, just in case you were thinking of stealing plucky Sting for your own means. Honestly, all the the trademark notices confuse me a little. They’re attached to Ron Simmons and Lex Luger’s names as well:

While I’m a big fan of #BRANDING in all its forms, I am super dumb when it comes to understanding how trademarks work. I tried to do some research into how it applies to wrestler’s names and learned absolutely nothing BUT my Googling did lead me to this page with John Cena taking about reading, where he also lists his five favourite books:

This has nothing to do with the WCW comic (as it sadly isn’t featured), but it really makes you wonder exactly how many books Cena’s read in his life if his top five includes a coffee table book about cars and a fifteen year old book about wrestling trivia. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’s a solid choice though, so I’ll give him that.

ANYWAY. Enough sidetracks. See you on Wednesday for page one!
