WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Two, Page 1

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

WCW: The Comic (Issue Two, Page 1)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: So that’s issue two off to a boring start. We just saw this, you jerks! We don’t need a flashback to what Lex Luger did to Ron Simmons with that beautiful trophy.

Anyway, blah blah blah, Missy Hyatt catches us all up to speed, whatever. She introduces a somewhat confusing concept by casually referring to the ‘WCW championship committee’ as a thing that we should be aware of, but this is the first I’ve heard of it! Come on Missy, you’re letting yourself down as a wrestling journalist here by not giving us more info.

There’s really not much to discuss, aside from this example of WCW comic writer ‘Mad Dog’ Mike Lackey giving Missy Hyatt dialogue that she would never ever say:

She goes from “y’all” and “waffled” in the first paragraph to discussing Lex’s rhetoric in the last paragraph. Missy, girl, come on now. Don’t be frontin’ with all that fancy college talk, you’re not fooling anybody. IN SHORT: this page sucked. Will Friday’s be better? Here’s hoping! See you then.
