WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Three, Page 4

    • WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue Three, Page 4

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

WCW: The Comic (Issue Three, Page 4)

WCW: The Comic is probably the property of Marvel Comics / WWE, though I’m not entirely sure. This website makes no claims to own it; all panels and images are posted in the spirit of fair use and are the property of their respective owners and creators.

Tom: Cactus Jack, looking like a partially shaved bear, begins the process of hijacking the cruise ship. If you’re wondering, this is the point that the WCW comic truly becomes an insane ’80s action movie. Just check out his confrontation with the moustachioed captain:

HAHA WHAT? Mick Foley is basically a hirsute Hans Gruber here. After reading it about twenty times, I’m still not sure if the ‘please hang up and try again’ routine is the worst or best thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely one of the two.

MEANWHILE, IN THE JACUZZI STEAM ROOM: One of the WCW cruise winners is proposing a toast!

Yes, a toast to the Stinger! However, this innocent scene of two guys and a girl getting loaded in a jacuzzi doesn’t last for long, thanks to an interruption from The Young Pistols:

“Outta the pool and into the bags” is an AMAZING phrase that I wasn’t expecting to read today, but the WCW comic is full of surprises like that! It is slightly spoiled by that one guy questioning what they want, since I really don’t think it’s possible to more clearly demand that people get out of a pool and into the bags than saying ‘outta the pool and into the bags’. The Pistols are a lot of things, but obtuse isn’t one of ’em.

But hey, enough of the villains – where’s our hero, Sting? The answer may surprise AND delight you – come back on Friday to find out!
