WCW Comic Book Reading Club: Issue One, Page 10

WCW: The Comic Book was published in the early 90s by Marvel Comics. Nobody in wrestling or comics paid it much attention, and after 12 issues, it was cancelled and lost to the ages. Until now.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, @tomblackett will post a new page of the WCW comic with his comments and we’ll read through it together. We’ll be there for each other, through the good (Vader! The Steiners! Sting! Cactus Jack!) and the (Johnny B.) Badd.

NOOOOOO.

I’m so sorry guys, I genuinely thought that we were done with Johnny B. Badd for now, but he JUST WON’T DIE.

At least he also see a satisfying amount of PN News to balance things out, who debuts his hot new jam, Charity Rap:

My name is PN News and you’re going to see,
Ten thousand bucks go to my charity,
Yo baby, yo baby, yo,
Outta da ring you’ll go.

You can tell it’s a real rap because the opening lyric is “My name is…”, though he loses points for not following it up with “..and I’m here to say”.

This page also features the beginning of The Saga of the Steiner Brothers. Poor Rick, the first time we properly see him and he’s getting eliminated, thus disappointing all the children of the Atlanta Orphanage. If they don’t explain who every single wrestler’s chosen charity is, I will be EXTREMELY disappointed.

Also, I have no idea what Arn Anderson is going on about as he tosses Rick out:

Insurance? What? So after a match, Arn will go to his insurance agency and file a claim for all damage received, provided it was inflicted by one of the moves they cover against? And what’s a reverse knife-edge? Wouldn’t that just be a slap? WHAT.

We also see the shadowy trenchcoat paedophiles making some weird comments to the dog-faced gremlin:

So I guess we can assume that Rick Steiner will be murdered at some point in this comic! Either that or the shadowy guys are just overly concerned about the future Big Poppa Pump’s fashion sense.
