    The Jeer Section: Debut Edition

Wrestlers say and do ridiculous things.

Every week, we’ll recap the top few of the most terrible or silly acts perpetrated by wrestlers as we enter The Jeer Section.

    Velvet Sky

In the latest news of TNA talent publicly making insensitive comments, Velvet Sky stated her displeasure for the celebration of Caitlyn Jenner being acknowledged as an acceptance of transgender people.

Jenner was given an award for courage by ESPN at their ESPY Awards last week resulting in the following thoughts by Sky:

    sky

    sky2

Sky and her boyfriend Bully Ray constantly complain about the “political correctness” of Twitter especially in the aftermath of social media’s reaction to her comments and are striking back by selling t-shirts that say “Go Fuck Your Selfie.” You have to love pro wrestling.

Around The Wrestling World In 7 Days: April 18, 2015

Every weekend, Joey will give a glimpse of the things that have entered his mind.

Hi. I have a lot of thoughts about wrestling. I decided to start a concept where I talk about what’s on my mind every weekend. I hope it’s enjoyable.

    Injuries happen

Daniel Bryan was pulled off the WWE European tour due to injury concerns. Rumor has it Bryan has suffered a concussion. I think fans need to back off making strong comments about injuries involving wrestlers and all professional athletes.

For example – Many are discussing whether Bryan should change his style, start to plan a retirement and are just making critical comments about him. The same happened to Rey Mysterio on a more disgusting level with it becoming common to laugh at his injuries. It makes no sense.

When your body is dealing with concerns that could effect your career or life, your opinion is the only one that should matter. Second guessing things in wrestling is the nature of the beast but trying to make decision for a wrestler himself is ridiculous.

    Extreme Stupidity

After an amazing Wrestlemania, I was expecting a good card for Extreme Rules. Early signs indicate it will be a tough task for the show to deliver. The biggest issue I have with it is the stipulation in the Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins main event. A cage match where the RKO is banned.

The cage match is outdated in 2015. Fans have shorter attention spans and the cage match tends to be a slow story. There’s also so many similar gimmicks in WWE. With the Hell In A Cell match having its own PPV and cage matches being on random episodes of RAW, no one cares about it as a feud ending PPV main event. Worst of all, it constricts the wrestlers into telling a very specific story and limits their athleticism. The RKO being banned is also silly. These guys deserve a better chance.

    Wrestlemania

I haven’t been this less excited for a Wrestlemania since Wrestlemania 11 back when I didn’t realize Wrestlemania was a special thing. Every year going forward, there’s been at least one match or storyline that has captivated me going into the big show. Sometimes they were home runs (The Rock vs. Hollywood Hogan), sometimes they were strike outs (Randy Orton vs. Triple H), but they always made me feel something special was happening. None of that is here. Sting’s debut WWE match is my selling point but becomes less appealing every time you watch a WWE segment on Sting. The Ultimate X Ladder Match exhibition and burial of Daniel Bryan is probably most depressing.

    Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins has lost so much momentum since his breakout performance at the Royal Rumble. The best heel in years, Rollins had become the top overall performer in WWE for a few months but that’s no more as his long, drawn out angle with Randy Orton has been a kiss of death. The slow burn build to an “RKO out of nowhere” payoff at Wrestlemania 31 may be enough to kill his chances of being in a good position to leave Wrestlemania week as WWE champion.

    This Or That (11/4/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

    Better Frog Splash?

    Rob Van Dam – 74%, Eddie Guerrero – 26%

    Better Powerbomb?

    Sid – 76%, Kevin Nash – 24%

    Better Shooting Star Press?

    Paul London – 81%, Billy Kidman – 19%

    Better Superkick?

    Shawn Michaels – 57%, Young Bucks – 43%

Which wrestling item would you rather have received at a show: The Rock’s elbow pad or Bret Hart’s sunglasses?

Would you rather have had caught Rock’s elbow pad before he hit the People’s Elbow or have Bret Hart hand you his sunglasses when you were a kid?

    rock-bret

    Tim:

Yeah, I want a smelly and sweaty elbow pad randomly thrown into the audience from a douchebag who is performing an overly dramatic and dumb elbow maneuver. Just kidding. I’m not a creepy lunatic after all. I want the cool wrestler who ends up being a bitter mess later on in his career to strap some cheap but really fucking shiny and pink sunglasses on my bulbous alien head.

    Bret Hart’s sunglasses

    Joey:

As a kid, I despised Bret Hart and even I wanted those damn sunglasses. They were probably the coolest merch item in WWE history. Catching The Rock’s elbow pad would have been fun (and worth more on Ebay) but it would just be the luck of it falling to you. Bret actually picking you and putting it on your face would have been a memory for life. Give me the Hitman sunglasses. (Seriously. Someone send me a pair.)

    Bret Hart’s sunglasses

    Tom:

Here’s the difference between Rock’s elbow pad and Bret’s sunglasses – when you catch the elbow pad, it’s a combination of reach, dumb luck and positioning. With Bret? He CHOOSES you. He picks you out as the number one kid in the crowd (or at least in the front row). Plus, you can wear them all around town afterwards whereas it’s difficult to tie an elbow pad into a snazzy outfit. Gimme dem sunglasses, boy.

    This Or That (8/6/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Which Summerslam upper card match are you looking forward to more?

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose – 64%, John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar – 36%

Which Summerslam Divas match are you looking forward to more?

Paige vs. AJ – 55%, Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella – 45%

Which Summerslam match would you rather be removed from the card?

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton – 65%, Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho – 35%

More refreshing cold drink on a hot Summer day?

    Lemonade – 62%, Iced tea – 38%

More likely to wrestle another match in a WWE ring: Hulk Hogan or CM Punk?

Hulk Hogan says he wants one more match. Paul Heyman says CM Punk never wants to have another match. Who is more likely to have one?

    hogan-punk

    Tim:

I’m not 100% sure we will ever see CM Punk wrestle in WWE again but I don’t see Hogan passing the medical exams WWE makes wrestlers go through. He might wrestle in a tag team match where all he does is tag in, punch someone, does his taunts, and pins them. I am going to feel guilty if that comes to fruition because I put that out into the universe just now and it came to be. It would be my fault. So, no. That will not happen.

    CM Punk

    Joey:

You’d think CM Punk eventually comes back to wrestling because it’s wrestling and you’d think WWE never allows someone as old or prone to injury as Hulk Hogan to wrestle again but I’m going the other way. For better or worse, CM Punk is his own person and believes in his principles and I see him never wrestling again because he wants to be the guy who quit and never came back.

On the flip side, I can definitely see Hogan getting another match even if something silly like Bret Hart’s WWE matches vs. Vince McMahon and The Miz. Hell, I can realistically see them putting him out there vs. Cena like he hopes in desperation of saving The Network if business doesn’t pick up by Wrestlemania or Summerslam 2015.

    Hulk Hogan

    Tom:

I’m almost 100% sure that we’ll see another Hogan match, but for some reason, I just don’t see it as happening in a WWE ring – maybe some kind of multi-man tag match, but not a singles match (which is how I’m choosing to interpret this question). After Lawler almost dying, I think they’re extra conscious that having a ‘legend’ die or be crippled on live TV is maybe not the best idea, and Hogan seems barely mobile right now. However, I do think he’ll do something independently or with some wacky Japanese company eventually.

Meanwhile, I think we’ll see CM Punk back in a year or two. Yes, he’s incredibly stubborn and principled and I’m sure he’s in love with the idea of being the one guy who never comes back… but he’s still never had that Wrestlemania main event. What’s more, the sad truth is that there’s really not much out there for former wrestlers who don’t want to wrestle. He could start a podcast, he could do more live appearances and he could try and segue into becoming an actor or a generic ‘personality’, but all his strengths seem to be built around wrestling and I think he’ll realise that eventually. If he DOES transition into doing something that he’s happy with, great! I just think it’s unlikely.

You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week’s results:

Who will have more WWE World Championship reigns in the next 3 years?

    John Cena – 61%, Roman Reigns – 39%

Better place-holder heel to win MITB?

    Alberto Del Rio – 74%, Randy Orton – 26%

    Stardust.

    Yay – 76%, Nay – 24%

    Better sport?

    Hockey – 63%, Soccer – 27%

Which ladder match are you more excited for: WWE Championship match or MITB briefcase match?

One’s for the title, one’s for the briefcase, but which do you care about most?

    mitb

    Tim:

I think the real Money In The Bank briefcase match is going to be a lot more fun to watch strictly from a wrestling perspective and seeing who will win. You’ll have Kofi Kingston who can deliver some fun spots, Dolph Ziggler who will go all out, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in the ring together, and Wade Barrett throwin’ some ‘bows. Sounds great to me!

The six-man ladder match for the title has a lot of potential to tell some interesting stories and be a hotbed for future feuds, however they haven’t made me care about it. I don’t care too much about any wrestler in that match outside of Cesaro. I’m already dreading the upcoming year full of Roman Reigns Is Almighty. Added to all of this was the Kane nonsense so I completely checked out. Kane has the power to make me not care about anything. But here’s to hoping it is an interesting match.

    MITB briefcase match

    Joey:

The ascension of Roman Reigns, the potential of Cesaro, the star power of John Cena and the fact that the actual title was on the line would have made the WWE Championship ladder match the clear choice but the corny go home segment of Kane attacking everyone just took so much out of it for me. At least the briefcase match has enough talented guys who can utilize the ladders more than the main eventers plus there’s an actual reason to care about Rollins vs. Ambrose as opposed to any interaction of the main event.

    MITB briefcase match

    Tom:

I think the show on Sunday should be a really fun time, not that the announcements and additions last night did much to get me excited for it, the worst of those being Kane being placed as such a key part of the WWE Championship. Fuck you, Kane! Go home! We don’t want you anymore! The match should still be fantastic, but now I can almost imagine Kane winning the bloody thing, just so Bryan can get his revenge and win the title from him at Summerslam.

As for the MITB briefcase match, while I think the Rollins / Ambrose dynamic will be tremendous, the rest of the guys in that match really do seem like a lot of filler. I guess that’s typical for a MITB match though, so having guys like Ziggler and Kofi go crashing around as they get caught between Sexy Seth and Dangerous Dean, Troubled Teen should be a good time.

The Merch Table: ECW T-Shirt Special

Wrestling companies make merchandise. It’s usually pretty bad, but sometimes, it’s terrible. Welcome to The Merch Table.

Every week, @TomBlargh will look at some of the awful merch that someone expects you to buy. Up this week: ECW T-SHIRT SPECIAL.

There’s one bit from the Rise and Fall of ECW documentary that always stood out to me. It’s where they’re talking about how they all chipped in and did jobs in addition to wrestling to help out – Stevie Richards would man the ECW hotline, Bubba Ray Dudley would talk to the venues… and Taz would design the shirts.

The last one always seemed weird to me. Taz? Really? The guy with all the orange who dresses like this? He was the one responsible for coming up with all the iconic ECW logos and shirts?

This warranted further investigation into ECW’s shirt designs (with the ZandigFans forum proving a treasure trove of material). Now, I don’t know if Taz is responsible for all of these but… well, I wouldn’t be surprised. LET’S GET STARTED.

Tommy Dreamer, Beulah McGillicutty and Kimona Wanalaya T-Shirt

A shirt celebrating this very special moment in wrestling history. Sure, why not? What’s nice is how subtle it is. Just check out the back:
