    WrestleMania 33 Preview and Predictions

    Red light. Green light.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @JoeyOnEarth, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlargh.

Neville vs. Austin Aries for the Cruiserweight Championship

    Joey:

This may be the first time a credible popular face is challenging a credible popular heel since the cruiserweight division became a part of the main roster. That is pretty cool. Neville and Austin Aries have been delivering some compelling segments in recent weeks. They’ve set the tone for an important kickoff match. I think they will have a great match to start the evening/late afternoon. Neville has to retain. That title has changed hands way too many times already and Neville is on fire as a heel right now.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: Neville wins.

    Tim:

EDITOR’S NOTE: Tim is currently dealing with real bad weather in Arkansas, but he may get his predictions in later.

    Interest Level: Pray for Tim/10
    Prediction: Please stay safe.

    Tom:

ALRIGHT, HERE GOES. I can’t stand Aries as a personality in 2017, especially when he’s meant to be the face. I bloody love Neville though. I think the two will have an excellent match together in a half empty stadium, but the set looks beautiful so that’ll be fun for them.

    Interest Level: 9/10
    Prediction: Neville wins.

2017 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

    Joey:

I always enjoy the battle royal on WrestleMania and think it’s a great idea. Everyone assumes Braun Strowman is getting the win here but I think it will be Big Show’s year again. Show got into such great shape for the huge Shaq match and is now relegated to a pre-show battle royal.

I think WWE rewards him with the win. I also believe they would have bumped something else to the pre-show if Braun was winning or any big surprises were planned. Big Show wins a battle royal with minimal surprises.

    Interest Level: 6/10
    Prediction: Big Show wins.

    Tim:

EDITOR’S NOTE: Tim is currently dealing with real bad weather in Arkansas, but he may get his predictions in later.

    Interest Level: Pray for Tim/10
    Prediction: Please stay safe.

    Tom:

The big question is “will Shaq be in the Battle Royal?” and here’s my answer: I think so, yes. I’ve got no idea what Braun is going to do so shut up about that, alright? Maybe Big Show and Shaq team up to eliminate him, I don’t know.

Anyway, I’m hoping the main story of this is old Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe continuing to rough each other up, with Sami finally getting the win before having a trophy smashed over his sweet head.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: Sami Zayn wins.

Alexa Bliss vs. Naomi vs. Becky Lynch vs. Carmella vs. Natalya vs. Mickie James vs. TBD for the Smackdown Women’s Championship

    Joey:

This match is likely going to be a mess but hopefully they can find a way to make it work. The ladies of Smackdown have been doing a great job since the brand split and definitely deserve to have this on the main show, assuming it is.

As much as I’d love for Naomi to get her moment back in her hometown, I believe Alexa Bliss retains and WWE continues to go with her as the champ for a while. Please keep Kelly Kelly away from the ring.

    Interest Level: 7/10
    Prediction: Alexa Bliss wins.

    Tim:

EDITOR’S NOTE: Tim is currently dealing with real bad weather in Arkansas, but he may get his predictions in later.

    Interest Level: Pray for Tim/10
    Prediction: Please stay safe.

    Tom:

It’s not on the preshow, thank God! I know the official reason is because we, the fans, demanded that it be on the main show but I think we all know it’s really because they can’t have Naomi’s entrance while it’s still light outside.

Anyway, is this the match where they have a bunch of old WWE divas show up to launch a feud between the new WWE female superstars to have a scrap over who is strongest/sexiest/most powerful? Hope not! Just let Naomi win, come on.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: Naomi wins.

WWE Fastlane 2017 Preview and Predictions

It’s a Fastlane, baby, drive me crazy.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @JoeyOnEarth, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlargh.

Rich Swann & Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar on the kickoff

    Joey:

I enjoy the cruiserweights but I don’t care about this match at all. Just give us an eight man flips match for the pre-show and call it a night.

    Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: Swann and Tozawa win. A lot of people tweet “ALICIA FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOX”

    Tim:

I’m a big fan of three of these guys but I’m not expecting much from it since it’s a pre-show match. Akira Tozawa and his charisma have been a gift to the cruiserweight division. His storyline with Kendrick is the best thing in the division outside of Neville’s heel reign. Noam Dar is such a bore. I can’t believe he gets as much air time as he does. Swann still hasn’t found his spot but I’m hoping that changes one day soon. Anyway, this’ll be a nice little pre-show match.

    Interest Level: 4/10
    Prediction: Swann and Tozawa win.

    Tom:

Tozawa has been so exciting in his limited time on WWE TV, to the point that I badly want him to shift out of the Cruiserweight division so he’s not just limited to wrestling the guys there. However, I can live with it for the time-being. I like all of the guys in this match to various degrees, so even though it’s a TV match, I’m sure it’ll be fine. Also, big laffs at TJP not even making kickoff shows now.

    Interest Level: 6/10
    Prediction: Tozawa and Swann win.

    Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

    Joey:

No interest in this feud. I definitely think Nia Jax wins in dominant fashion to remain strong and set up Sasha Banks’ frustration and anger for something later in the show.

    Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: Nia Jax wins. Tom tweets he’s not like most girls.

    Tim:

This is something I just haven’t been able to connect with. Nia Jax just isn’t that great in her role. Best case scenario for this match to be anything worth seeing is Jax dominating most of it and Banks selling over the top for her in crazy ways. I would think Jax gets the win here.

    Interest Level: 1/10
    Prediction: Nia Jax wins.

    Tom:

    Nah.

    Interest Level: 2/10
Prediction: Nia Jax wins. Continue reading

Survivor Series 2016 Preview and Predictions

    Raw vs. Smackdown

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @JoeyOnEarth, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlargh.

The Miz vs. Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship

    Joey:

I was looking forward to Sami Zayn kicking Dolph Ziggler’s smug fucking face off but this is the better match. Zayn being the hometown favorite against the most hated heel on the show sets up a great scenario. I definitely think Zayn is winning here and bringing the Intercontinental Championship to Raw. The potential of the two titles on the line switching shows would benefit all involve.

    Interest Level: 10/10
    Prediction: Sami Zayn wins.

    Tim:

I’m down for this. These two could put on a show stealing match if given the time.  I am really just glad Sami Zayn is being used in an important way. I hope they go with Zayn winning the championship here in front of this crowd. Daniel Bryan has been talking about trading Miz to Raw a whole lot with Cesaro and Zayn being the two names he brings up the most. I doubt Smackdown gets to keep the Intercontinental Championship and gain the Cruiserweight Championship. So, I’m going to predict something off the wall here to keep things spicy even if it doesn’t quite make sense. Daniel Bryan has already made the deal to trade Miz for Zayn to Raw because he doesn’t believe Miz will win. Stephanie McMahon thinks Miz will beat Zayn and agreed to the deal. Miz will defeat Zayn, prove Bryan wrong, and take the belt to Raw.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: The Miz wins.

    Tom:

The Toronto crowd utterly rejecting Ziggler would have been a beautiful thing to witness live, but I think Zayn/Miz might actually be the better match! Zayn is the closest thing to Daniel Bryan on the current roster, so I’m excited to see what he can do with Miz, and I’m sure the crowd will be hot for it. I don’t think Miz has become the revelation that some people think, but he’s definitely improved and he’s capable of having excellent matches with people who are better than him.

Storyline wise, I’m expecting the result to see Miz moved to Raw, though I still think Sami will be winning the title.

    Interest Level: 9/10
    Prediction: Sami Zayn wins.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Kalisto for the Cruiserweight Championship

    Joey:

This is another cool match that has been worth the wackiness of the brand split. The Raw vs. Smackdown matches feel somewhat important, especially the ones with something on the line. WWE needed to go with a face to be the face (HAHHAHAHAHAAH) of the division and TJ Perkins completely bombed. Kalisto could have a better shot as someone the fans are familiar with.

Fun fact: The crowd at a MSG house show in March went fucking nuts for Kalisto. The kids are big into the LUCHA LUCHA LUCHA thing. He’s the guy.

Anyway, something needs to change here. Smackdown getting the cruiserweight division would make up for the lack of talent depth and make it nearly must-watch.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: Kalisto wins.

    Tim:

Kalisto can be very messy but I can’t help but enjoy him under the right circumstances. Kendrick and the Cruiserweight Division as a whole have been a huge disappointment on the main roster. Hopefully going to Smackdown and getting their own show will help put them back in the great place they were during the CWC. Raw just wasn’t working out. Kalisto will be a good encapsulation of what the division is for now.

    Interest Level: 7/10
    Prediction: Kalisto wins.

    Tom:

I’m excited for this! I enjoy Kendrick but Kalisto seems like a much better representative of the division, or at least while it’s still taking off. It’d also be nice to see Neville pulled in, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that. Anyway, should be a fun match and something to provide a nice break from all the multi-man business.

    Interest Level: 8/10
    Prediction: Kalisto wins.

The Big Dog Bites Back: Legends of Wrestling, June 7th, 2015

My name is Tom and I am The Big Dog.

I attended the Legends of Wrestling show at Citifield baseball stadium in Queens, New York on Sunday – I live-tweeted some of the highlights from @TomBlargh, before writing the following report for “Big” Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer. Unfortunately, Melty chose not to publish it so the Observer’s loss is Wrestling On Earth’s gain!

    BTW

Attendance: A couple thousand or so, probably? Matt Striker announced it as 8,000 at one point, though that was definitely a lie. Long lines for all the autograph signings and hot dogs and that. Lots of kids, lots of guys walking around with replica belts on their shoulders.

Pre-show: There were a few matches. One of them had Pete Gas! Pete’s looking healthy. There was another one that was a tag match before being turned into a battle royal for no reason, and to the apparent surprise of all the wrestlers.

Matt Striker and Ashley Massaro came out to do commentary, which is piped-in over the intercom. Matt Striker was as dreadful as you’d expect, Ashley was mostly silent.

Match 1: Two Lads vs. Another Two Lads

Can’t remember any of their names tbh. One was a big fat old guy with gross bleached blonde hair, a bit like how Raven used to have it. John Cena Sr. is managing one team so they pipe-in “let’s go Cena / Cena sucks” chants. There are a LOT of piped-in chants over the course of the evening, it’s pretty amazing. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine is managing the other team and my goodness but he has lovely silky hair.

    WINNER: Greg Valentine’s mates.
    Star Rating: ****

Valentine puts one of the other lads in a figure four after the match. It takes a while, but he kind of gets there in the end! Almost!

Match 2: Tyrus vs. Brian Myers

Brian Myers is dressed up in Mets-themed gear and came out with one of the team’s mascots. Despite this shameless pandering, he doesn’t get much of a response. When Tyrus comes out, they play piped-in “Funkosaurus” chants. Nobody joins in, but they still use it as justification for old Tyrus getting on the mic and saying “funk you” to the crowd. Sensational banter, classic heel heat.

    WINNER: Curt Hawkins
    Star Rating: ****1/4

After the match, Tyrus picked up Ashley and carried her to the back. No explanation why.

Match 3: “Hacksaw” James Duggan vs. Robbie E.

Everyone loves old Hacksaw and he seemed to be having a grand old time. There was some debate between myself and @JoeySplashwater over whether he’d take his t-shirt off to wrestle but: he did not.

    WINNER: Hacksaw Jim Duggan
    Star Rating: ****1/2

Match 4: Tommy Dreamer vs. Wes Brisco

Wes Brisco comes out to “Bad to the Bone” for some reason. He has leg tattoos now that look absolutely fucking dreadful:

    wes-brisco-leg-tattoos

    BREAKING WES BRISCO TATTOO UPATE:

If that’s the case, he should always wear long pants, they’re bloody awful.

Thomas Dreamer came out wearing a Mets jersey and looked like someone’s dad, though he is someone’s dad so I guess that’s fair enough.

At one point, Dreamer gives Brisco an RKO, which he kicks out of. Heavy shot at Randy Orton. Brisco gets finished with a DDT though, so hopefully that’ll make Steve Austin happy.

    WINNER: Tommy Dreamer
    Star Rating: ****

    Wrestlers vs. Zoo Animals

Two things we love here at Wrestling On Earth are pro wrestlers and zoo animals. There have been many photos circulating of wrestlers visiting zoos. We decided to compile the best and put them all together.

For you, the reader, we will closely examine each of these photos and learn at least one important tidbit worthy of loving, living and sharing. Only because we’re professionals like that.

    Daniel Bryan

    koalabryan

Featured in our How To Be The Best In The World feature, Daniel Bryan spends some time with a koala.

What we learned: Everyone wants to hug Daniel Bryan, even koalas.

    The Miz

    mizkoala

Another wrestler featured on our site in the past, The Miz also spends some time with a (less fortunate) koala.

What we learned: Don’t feel bad next time you fall asleep during a Miz promo – cute animals do the same.

    Jeff Hardy

    zoohardy

Jeff Hardy with a snake. The snake looks to be very dangerous.

What we learned: Jeff Hardy looks way too comfortable with a dangerous animal around his neck.

    CM Punk

    KOALACMpunk

The koalas are back as CM Punk stares one down.

What we learned: Judging by their facial expressions, the koala isn’t straight edge and CM Punk disapproves. He probably also feels sorry for it because it doesn’t have any tattoos.

    Triple H

    zoohhhkangaroo

    Triple H feeds a kangaroo.

What we learned: I know it’s supposed to be about the animal interaction, but is that a FANNY PACK in Triple H’s other hand? Fanny packs confirmed to be THAT DAMN GOOD (and WWE’S COO confirmed as not understanding that you’re meant to wear them around your waist). Continue reading

Match of the Week: Goldberg vs. Ryback

Many sites have a match of the week but ours is a little different. These matches are the ones that are fun to watch… in the non-traditional way.

This week, we’ve chosen Goldberg vs. Ryback. With a rumored showdown at Wrestlemania 30, we have video of their first match. Very rare footage. Members of the site @TimWelcomed, @typicalROHfan and @TomBlackett give their (lack of) expertise on the action.

    Part 1: Entrances

    GoldbergRyback1

    Tim:

Out comes a very young Ryback. WCW was clearly grooming him for a big future by giving him an entrance for his first match.

Tony Schiavone said “Great champions do not worry about their opponents. They worry about what they can do to win a match.” I think they do both? Doesn’t that go hand-in-hand? I guess, Schiavone would know more than me.  Continue reading
