This Or That: Who Did It Better? (10/28/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Which new wrestling program are you more likely to watch?

    Lucha Underground – 73%, British Bootcamp 2 – 27%

Which rumored WWE return would you interest you more?

    Chris Jericho – 55%, The Boogeyman – 45%

    Better PWG commentary legend?

    Kevin Steen – 52%, Chuck Taylor – 48%

    Better bear?

Grizzly Bear– 51%, Polar bear – 49% (Grizzly bears won by one vote)

Better frog splash: Eddie Guerrero or Rob Van Dam?

    Flying high.

    eddiervd-splash

    Tim:

While Eddie Guerrero’s frog splash had a certain grace to it I was always enamored with Rob Van Dam’s frog splash more. The height, the distance, the style, and the way he sold that it hurt him as well after impact with the bounce. It was so perfect. He doesn’t do it with that amount of style but he has far and away the best frog splash I’ve ever seen on a consistent basis throughout his career. The frog splash can be one of the most beautiful wrestling moves when done right and both of these guys had it down to a science but Rob Van Dam had a way of mixing style and realism almost flawlessly.

    Rob Van Dam

    Joey:

Fun fact: The frog splash is my favorite top rope move!

Eddie Guerrero had a more accurate and effective frog splash that was a thing of beauty. From a realistic point of view, he would hit it and pin the opponent instantly. RVD’s would have more elevation and would sell that extra height by not going for the pin right away.

Even so, I’m going to have to side with Rob Van Dam. Before seeing RVD in ECW, I felt like I watched wrestling in black and white then Van Dam showed me the beauty of color with his unique move set that was so far out of the realm of what I knew of in my wrestling world. The Five Star Frog Splash and the crazy elevation he got was a big part of it.  I hate ending this with a bad pun but RVD just got higher and it was glorious.

    Rob Van Dam

    Tom:

Pretty disgusting that D’Lo Brown isn’t an option here. ANYWAY. Even with how sluggish he’s gotten in all his recent returns, there’s still a part of me that will always be an RVD mark. He was my number one favourite guy for a good couple of years (so I’m completely biased here) and I think his frog splash just looks that much more devastating than Eddie’s. Eddie’s might be prettier, but that Rob Van Dam is DENSE, y’know? Dense like a muffin. Imagine a big old muffin man landing on you, forget it.

    Rob Van Dam

    This Or That (8/12/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlargh will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose,
giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

More likely to wrestle another match in a WWE ring?

    Hulk Hogan – 64%, CM Punk – 36%

Who will win more TV/PPV matches for the rest of 2014?

    Cesaro – 60%, Heath Slater – 40%

Who do you side with in their Twitter feud?

    Taz – 65%, Vince Russo – 35%

    Dipping cookies in froyo?

    Nay – 73%, Yay – 27%

Should the WWE champion ever be a “part time” wrestler: Yes or No?

Brock Lesnar is challenging for the title this Sunday and is the heavy favorite to win. Should someone who works a schedule like his be champion for a long time period?

    brock-rock

    Tim:

I just want it to be on whoever can make it seem more important and put on good matches and make the most out of what hugely are given. Fresh off of beating the streak with a great manager at his side, Lesnar is fine for this.

    Yes

    Joey:

I think the champion should be the best person for the spot who can make the most money and create the most interest. Right now, that’s Brock Lesnar. If Brock does one appearance every month, I think it will be manageable. Even if he doesn’t, what are we really missing? Some combination of Cena, Orton, Kane, Big Show, Roman Reigns and Sheamus facing each other for a belt?

The belt would typically be defended every other month in the most successful days of WCW so this wouldn’t be something new or unheard of. Fans disdain for “part time” performers are really silly. If someone entertains or provides successful results, utilize him as best you can and Brock definitely should defeat Cena this time.

    Yes

    Tom:

I can see the arguments for having the WWE champion being on every show and every live event and so on and so forth, but I think the main event scene is so stale at the moment with the main roster guys that having an ‘outsider’ like Lesnar would at least be something different. Aside from Bryan’s brief run, I think the last time there was any real interest in the belt and who was champion was when Punk ‘stole it’ after his Money in the Bank 2011 win.

Sure, that storyline finished before it started and Brock as champ would be a little different, but it’d be something new and God knows something new would be welcome right now.

    Yes

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

Throw confetti and blow up some balloons. Let’s name The Sexy Wrestler of The Week!

Good day to all of you lovely ladies and men. I am extremely gleeful because of the great love and care you all have shown by unanimously voting for someone whose birthday is today! You gave this ex-wrestler the greatest gift of all: The right to call himself The Sexy Wrestler of The Week on his birthday!

    KidmanSWOTW
“The Birthday Boy” Billy Kidman is The Sexy Wrestler of The Week! Be sure to wish this cruiser weight icon a happy birthday on Twitter: @WWEKidman. He loves fan interaction and I’m sure it will warm his heart if we all shower him with birthday greetings.

Match of the Week: Horace Hogan vs. Billy Kidman (WCW Thunder 4/26/2000)

Many sites have a match of the week but ours is a little different. These matches are the ones that are fun to watch… in the non-traditional way.

This week, we’ve chosen Billy Kidman vs. Horace “Not Hulk” Hogan in a bout from WCW Thunder on April 26, 2000. Members of the site @TimWelcomed, @typicalROHfan and @TomBlackett give their (lack of) expertise on the action.

Part 1: Kidman lays down the challenge.

    kidman-horace1

    Tim:

Billy Kidman makes his way to the ring like a true star. He gets his own pyro, has his lady-friend next to him, and even gets halfway down the ramp before you’re distracted by the nameplate’s loud electricity sound. That’s a superstar entrance. Then we get an awkward cut to a replay from the week before. Marc Mero is in the crowd so we have to deal with that for a second.

Kidman trashes Hogan for a bit. I can always be content with people doing that. Torrie Wilson says some stuff but I was too busy counting how long her pauses were between each word. Kidman issues an open challenge. I hope he is prepared for who comes out.

    typicalROHfan:

The uncrowned 1990’s “Sexy Wrestler of the Decade” Billy Kidman comes out to the ring with Torrie Wilson. Torrie is currently known as the girlfriend of PED using baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Yes, she is dating a famous steroid user OUTSIDE of the world of pro wrestling. Earth, this is.

After boasting of a beat down on Hulkamania, Kidman SHOOTS on Hulk Hogan‘s comments burying Kidman in public. Hulk legitimately trashed Kidman in radio interviews in a real life context. Shades of Hulk Hogan in TNA. Wait, can we say “shades of” in reverse chronological order? Kidman talks about drawing straws and throwing potatoes (what is this throwing potatoes thing?) to see who faces him tonight. Who could it be?

    Tom:

Kidman’s rocking the red and yellow, brother. I never watched Thunder and WOW, that crackling electricty effect when his name comes up is about as 2000 as it gets. THAT’S GOTTA BE… THAT’S GOTTA BE MARC MERO IN THE FRONT ROW! And… Ray Renaldi? Ronaldi? Who?

Torrie Wilson’s faces while Kidman talks are REALLY weird. I think they’re meant to be sexy?. Somebody’s mom is drunkenly cheering Sexy Billy K. in the crowd. There’s a sign that reads ‘F.U.N.B.’, which is apparently something Hogan originated that means ‘Fuck U New Blood’. WCW was just amazing.

Kidman talks about how the people love him, and while the commentators try to under-cut him and say ‘doesn’t sound like it’, the camera keeps cutting to people cheering him like crazy. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE THINKING, WCW?!? Continue reading
