Seven Things: 7 Worst Wrestling Factions

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that will run weekly and consist of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

Evolution has returned and while I consider them to be overrated when compared to the best factions in wrestling history, it led the mind to wander. I started to think about my least favorite wrestling factions so we’re doing the 7 Worst Wrestling Factions of all time! Let’s go.

7. DX 2006

Degeneration X is easily one of the greatest factions in wrestling history but the relaunch was absolutely embarrassing. Between using Nickelodeon-like green slime, dumping poop on others, having a fat naked oily guy grind on adversaries and many other goofy bits, this was terrible television. Two 40 year old veterans with power playing the rebel/anti-authority role is a completely cringe-worthy act.

6. The Corre

After Nexus was formed, many thought it would go on to become an all time great faction. It surely was not but did have enough success to be in the middle tier of historical factions. After it ran its course (or should I say courrse?), the spin-off group known as The Corre was born.

Wade Barrett, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel defected to Smackdown and started The Corre with Ezekiel Jackson joining them. The Corre was as effective in getting over as they were accurate in spelling. Their short lived tenure ended losing to a random 4 man pairing at Wrestlemania in 94 seconds.

5. X-Factor

X-Pac, Justin Credible and Albert. Three talented enough wrestlers in a faction should provide some decent results, right? Wrong.

First off, they had a theme by Uncle Kracker. Yes, Uncle Kracker. The end.

Okay, I’ll give some more analysis. They basically did nothing during their time together as you can see by the pic I chose to add of them. When searching, this was the only decent image that popped up on Google. Not only a Sunday Night Heat graphic but for an appearance at the restaurant WWF New York.

4. Aces and Eights

Eric Bischoff’s fascination with bikers and TNA’s knack for imitating popular shows led to one of the worst factions in wrestling history. A rip off of Sons Of Anarchy, Aces and Eights started attacking TNA wrestlers in an attempt to take over TNA in a storyline that lasted a year and felt even longer.

The problem with it, other than a mundane idea and poor booking, has to be the talent that was selected. Wes Brisco, Garrett Bischoff, Mike Knox and Mr. Anderson were some core members. Big surprise members turned out to be commentators like Taz, backstage employees like D’Lo Brown and lackluster names like Devon Dudley.

Everyone’s memory of Aces and Eights is nothing but negatives and for good reason.

3. Truth Commission

When Bull Buchanan is the most known wrestler in a faction when you look back at it, you know it was a bust. No offense, B squared. The idea of a South African military/police group was dumb enough but having a stable of stiffs portray it was just abysmal. If you can think of any memorable moments from Truth Commission, you’re a better wrestling fan than me.

The best thing about the short lived group was The Jackyl. Don Callis is one of the more underrated promos during his stint in wrestling and the only positive thing I can recall of the Truth Commission.

2. Immortal

What happens when you try to recreate the NWO in 2010? Failure, as seen with TNA’s Immortal. After arriving in TNA and failing to grow ratings, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff decided to “swerve” the audience by starting a powerful heel faction. Who did the faction compile of? Of course, Hulkster and Easy E need to be all over your TV. Jeff Hardy turned heel for the first time in a long time. Jeff Jarrett started pretending to be a MMA fighter.

Matt Hardy, Gunner, Murphy, Ric Flair, NFL player Bart Scott, Chris Harris, Karen Jarrett, Mr. Anderson, Rob Terry, Kurt Angle, Tommy Dreamer, Mr. Anderson again and Scott Steiner somehow all were members at some point during the era of Immortal. Seemingly lasting forever, how did the faction eventually end? Eric Bischoff’s son Garrett turned face as a referee who was a heel but no one knew he was a heel because he was just a plain looking referee. Hulk Hogan also turned face on that night and Immortal thankfully was not immortal.

1. The Revolution

How can a stable with such talent be chosen at the worst faction ever in my mind? Well, partly due to the talent and the potential of The Revolution flopping so hard. Shane Douglas was signed by WCW away from ECW to join with Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn to shake things up in WCW and make names for themselves going after the older wrestlers.

It started out originally with Dean Malenko feuding with Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, getting upset that they were taking spots away from the younger guys. The problems started there as Malenko’s promo skills were never desirable but was especially bad during this time. Having him go toe to toe with a Flair or a Piper really exposed him and he looked weaker than ever.

As the faction began to get their footing, their presence just didn’t stick and you didn’t get a feel for what they were going for. Shane Douglas is unlikeable and his mic work as a face added another blow to the faction’s chances. At one point, they got so cold that WCW made Chris Benoit leave the faction to keep whatever value he had before it diminished.

The Revolution then turned into an anti-American group somehow and added a muscular female member meant to rip off Chyna named Asya. It also was funny how the Filthy Animals were worlds better as a faction at the same time despite WCW trying to make The Revolution a big deal. Shortly after, Saturn, Benoit and Malenko would leave WCW to debut in WWF together with Eddie Guerrero as The Radicalz, a much better faction.
