PWG Matt Rushmore Preview and Predictions

    • PWG Matt Rushmore Preview and Predictions

PWG returns with Matt Rushmore. PWG is the best. “If you love PWG so much, why don’t you marry it?” you may ask. We’ve looked it up and unfortunately you can’t legally marry a pro wrestling company.

Giving their thoughs and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @TimWelcomed, @typicalROHfan and @TomBlackett.

Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly for the PWG World Title

      typicalROHfan:

Anticipation for this match has been building for a few months and I’m excited to see it in PWG. I attended the ROH show where these two faced off and Adam Cole was busted open and spitting blood everywhere on his way to the top of the independent wrestling scene. It was one of the coolest things I’d ever seen live but these two have never really had a memorable one on one match since then.

Expect that to change. I can see this being the best indie wrestling match of 2013.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: #AdamColeBaby

      Tim:

I have been looking forward to this happening in the Reseda setting ever since Adam Cole won the PWG title. I think they’ll have the match that we always knew they could have together. I’m already anxiously waiting on the DVD of this show to be released.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: Adam Cole retains.

      Tom:

Honestly, it was only until BoLA that I was really sold on Kyle O’Reilly as a guy I wanted to see in the PWG main event scene. I guess that’s the whole purpose of BoLA though, so well done PWG! YOU DID IT AGAIN! I was also at the ROH show for the last ‘big’ Cole / O’Reilly match and it was a pretty incredible experience. The crowd was restless and clearly sceptical about the confusing ‘hybrid rules’ the match was competed under, but the way Cole and O’Reilly turned them around was amazing. I’m expecting something different here, but still just as great.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: Adam Cole.

The Young Bucks vs. Joey Ryan and Candice LaRae

      typicalROHfan:

The Young Bucks are my favorite act in wrestling right now and the pairing of Candice LaRae and Joey Ryan is weirdly perfect. I’ll be constantly checking YouTube and Twitter for the show video preview just to get a quick glimpse of the highlights of this match. I can’t see a situation where this isn’t amazing and Joey Ryan is in it. Think about that.

      Interest Level: 10/10
Prediction: *air guitar crotch chops* That means Young Bucks win.

      Tim:

This should be a fun one. The Young Bucks are at the top when it comes to tag teams. Joey Ryan… well, I could take him or leave him. Joey Ryan with Candice LeRae? I’ll take it, although I’d still rather have Candice make her way to the top as a singles competitor.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: Young Bucks win.

      Tom:

I only finished watching BoLA yesterday, and wow, how about that trios match on Night 2? If anything, Candice came out of the show as just a big a deal as Kyle. The Bucks are incredible. Every time I think they’re done evolving as performers, they add something new and it’s amazing. And Joey Ryan is also in this match!

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Those dang Young Bucks win.

      Kevin Steen vs. ACH

      typicalROHfan:

I haven’t seen their ROH match and likely won’t before I watch this show so I’m stoked. ACH’s PWG debut weekend was fantastic and he’s one of the most enjoyable wrestlers to watch. Glad they’re putting him vs. Steen and making him important early on. The match should rule.

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Kevin Steen wins for the Mount Rushmore sweep.

      Tim:

ACH is amazing. Kevin Steen is established one of the best around. It only makes sense for this to happen early on in ACH’s first PWG run as to spotlight him against the former PWG Champion. I love Steen most when he goes against high-flyers.

      Interest Level: 8/10
      Prediction: Kevin Steen wins.

      Tom:

Another stand-out from BoLA was ACH, and his match with Kyle was especially great. Steen’s in the same class as the Bucks, and it’ll be interesting to see how different he is now he’s one of the four faces of the Mount Rushmore of Wrestling. I can’t get enough of fun flippy guys being fun and flippy until suddenly they’re caught and DESTROYED, so I have very high expectations for this one as well.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: Kevin Steen wins.

      Johnny Gargano vs. Roderick Strong

      typicalROHfan:

Johnny Gargano was excellent in the BoLA tourney. Johnny Gargano has been excellent for the past year or two. Johnny Gargano should be a(n excellent) fixture in PWG going forward. Roderick Strong is….. Roderick Strong.

      Interest Level: 6/10
      Prediction: Johnny Gargano please God

      Tim:

I enjoy Roderick Strong in PWG. He consistently has decent to good matches. Johnny Gargano is something special. These two should have a great mid-card match that keeps the flow of this tasty looking show going. I’m looking forward to seeing these two go one-on-one.

      Interest Level: 7/10
      Prediction: Johnny Gargano wins.

      Tom:

Roderick Strong always surprises me in PWG – possibly because I always expect to be slightly bored by his matches so the bar’s set pretty low and possibly because Reseda is a magical place. Anyway, his match with Elgin at BoLA was better than any of the ones they had in ROH and even though I’m not fully onboard the Gargano bandwagon (if only due to lack of exposure), this should still be very good.

      Interest Level: 7/10
      Prediction: Johnny Gargano wins.

Brian Cage vs. Drake Younger vs. Tony Nese vs. Tomasso Ciampa

      typicalROHfan:

This should be cool. We all know what to expect in this one. I dig the multi-person matches in PWG.

      Interest Level: 8/10
      Prediction: Drake Younger wins.

      Tim:

There is a lot here to work with in this match with four talented individuals. It should be really fun. (Everything seems fun on this card, OKAY?!)

      Interest Level: 6/10
      Prediction: Drake Younger wins.

      Tom:

I felt awful for Ciampa at BoLA. I mean, obviously I felt awful for Brian Cage as well, but being part of an accident like that is a horrible thing to happen to a guy on his first night in a company. So, I’m glad to see him back, though this is a weird match. Four ways are always messy, but brother, there ain’t no mess tastier than a PWG mess.

      Interest Level: 7/10
      Prediction: Drake Younger wins.

AR Fox and Rich Swann vs. Trent? and Chuck Taylor

      typicalROHfan:

Happy to see Trent? return and the AR Fox/Rich Swann team can make anything fun so this rounds out another stacked PWG card. The 4 Way and this tag match adds depth to the card that makes PWG shows as anticipated as they are for most indie wrestling fans. Talent all over.

      Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Best Friends, best friends baking a cake.

      Tim:

I’m a Trent? supporter and a huge Chuck Taylor fan. This tag team has potential to be one o’ my new favorites. AR Fox and Rich Swann are two of the most exciting wrestlers to watch on the indie scene so I’m expecting this one to be another FUN match.

      Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Chuck Taylor and Trent? win.

      Tom:

Trent? was GREAT at BoLA, so I’m really glad to see him back again. This should be fairly excellent – I can’t get enough of Chuckie T’s antics and AR Fox and Rich Swann are terrific too.

      Interest Level: 8/10
      Prediction: Best Friends win.

Willie Mack and B-Boy vs. Pretty Peter Avalon and Ray Rosas

      typicalROHfan:

I love Willie Mack. Side note: He’s facing Samoa Joe at a random West coast indie show in a few weeks. Someone needs to get their camera phone out and hook me up. Yes, I’m begging. Please. I need that match in my life.

      Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Willie Mack does great things.

      Tim:

This will be a (you know what I’m going to say) fun opening match. Willie Mack can bring it and I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed Peter Avalon. Avalon and Rosas have good chemistry as a team as well.

      Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Peter Avalon and Ray Rosas win.

      Tom:

It sure is a PWG opener! We love Willie Mack.

      Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Willie Mack and B-Boy win.
