PWG DDT4 2014 Preview and Predictions

    • PWG DDT4 2014 Preview and Predictions

Everyone loves PWG. We love talking about it. Here’s a preview of the DDT4 tag tournament coming up tonight in Reseda.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the show are members of the site @typicalROHfan, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlackett.

First we’ll do the non-tournament matches.

Chris Hero vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Kyle O’Reilly vs. Drake Younger in a Four-Way #1 Contender Match

      typicalROHfan:

The best thing about this match aside from the overall talent and clash of styles is that it’s very realistic any of them could win. Chris Hero still has his “return buzz” going. Johnny Gargano apparently had the PWG World Title match vs. Adam Cole in 2014 on the recent All Star Weekend show. Kyle O’Reilly was “screwed” in his title shot due to Mount Rushmore attacking. Drake Younger is a king in Reseda. I think Drake wins this match and wins the title on the next show. Or maybe even the same night if the title shot happens then. PWG does crazy things, yo.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: Drake Younger wins.

      Tim:

This match is ridiculous in the best way possible. Hero, Gargano, and O’Reilly are some of my favorites and I’m finally starting to warm up to Younger. This match is loaded with great performers and all of them have a reason they could win. I think O’Reilly wins here so he can try again for the belt since Mount Rushmore ruined his chance last time and they will save Younger getting a shot for another time in the not-so-distant future.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: Kyle O’Reilly wins.

      Tom:

Four way matches are rarely something I look forward to (even when there’s a dynamite stipulation like having a different member of the same awful family in each guy’s corner), but this is a really fun mix-up that should be great. While all four are very different, I don’t see it as being a clash of styles – it might get a little messy and chaotic, but in that really fun PWG way.

As far as the winner, Drake’s the only one to have not had a singles title match recently, so he seems to be the natural choice to win and get a title shot. Just from an emotional perspective though, it feels like it’s Drake’s time – after rewatching some of his PWG matches from the past year, I’ve found a new appreciation for what he brings to the company and he’s ridiculously likeable.

      Interest Level: 9/10
      Prediction: Drake Younger wins.

      Tommaso Ciampa vs. Adam Thornstowe

Due to an injury, Roderick Strong was replaced in this match by Thornstowe.

      typicalROHfan:

I don’t know Adam Thornstowe. This is the first time in quite some time I’m seeing a new wrestler for the first time in PWG. Hopefully he shines in his opportunity. No Willie Mack here? Yikes. Tommaso Ciampa is still dope.

      Interest Level: 4/10
      Prediction: Tommaso Ciampa wins.

      Tim:

Adam Thornstowe, who I am not familiar wth outside of reading his name here and there, is in this match so here’s to hoping he can impress. I have faith in Ciampa usually having decent matches.

      Interest Level: 3/10
      Prediction: Ciampa wins.

      Tom:

Yeah, count me as another one that’s not familiar with Thornstowe, though I’m interested to see what he can do. Hopefully it’s another good showing for Ciampa as well.

      Interest Level: 5/10
      Prediction: Ciampa wins.

      Now for the DDT4 Tourney!

Kevin Steen and Adam Cole vs. Joey Ryan and Candice LeRae

      typicalROHfan:

The most anticipated DDT4 match for me. I was hoping Adam Cole and Kevin Steen would be a DDT4 team ever since Mount Rushmore was founded. The match will be awesome and it’s almost a shame there’s no chance of it main eventing. Prediction wise, with the DDT4 star power depth a little lighter than the last few years, you’d think Steen and Cole hanging around longer seems more likely.

      Interest Level: 10/10
      Prediction: COLE STEEN COLE wins.

      Tim:

This match excites me to no end. Steen and Cole are going to be a magnificent tag team. Candice LeRae is one of my favorite female wrestlers out there today (if not my number one). Actually, you can take “female” out of that last statement because she’s one of my favorite wrestlers around today. Period. Joey Ryan? Eh. I can deal with watching Steen and Cole beat up on him. I think Steen and Cole are going to go far.

      Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: Kevin Steen and Adam Cole win.

      Tom:

Oh man, yes please. A DDT4 without the Young Bucks feels a little off, but I’m more than fine with Cole and Steen taking their place in the tournament and Candice is still great. I’m even looking forward to Joey Ryan getting knocked around and invited to suck Adam Cole’s dick! IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO BE THE VICTIM OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT FOR A CHANGE, JOEY. LET’S SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT.

In other news, I literally just got that ‘COLE STEEN COLE’ is a play on ‘KILL STEEN KILL’ and I feel simultaneously stupid for it taking me this long to work it out / delighted by the delicious wordplay.

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: One half of Mount Rushmore gets the win.

      RockNES Monsters vs. Best Friends

      typicalROHfan:

Imagine a world where the RockNES Monsters won the DDT4 tourney in 2012 like many expected instead of The Super Smash Bros. I’m not sure what would have happened either way but it’s interesting to think about because I distinctly remember them being the hot new team in PWG, now they are kind of an afterthought but they’re definitely talented. Trent? is one of my favorite performers in pro wrestling right now and Chuck Taylor is frequently a joy so this should be fun.

      Interest Level: 6/10
      Prediction: Best Friends win.

      Tim:

The RockNES Monsters are the Kofi Kingston of indie tag teams in that they usually have above-mediocre matches and probably deserve more than they get but you hardly ever remember that until they wrestle. Trent?’s style mixed in with the indie wrestling style is something I am totally into. When him and Chuck Taylor started a tag team I was in for a treat. Chuck Taylor rarely lets me down. I really think that Best Friends get the win in this entertaining match.

      Interest Level: 6/10
      Prediction: Best Friends win.

      Tom:

I’m fully on board the Trent? train and there hasn’t been a Chuck Taylor match that I haven’t loved in at least a few ways. Contrarily, RockNES are a team that I always underrate – I can’t say I ever particularly anticipate their matches, but they do have a habit of doing a few things that I really get a kick out of.

      Interest Level: 7/10
      Prediction: Best Friends

      Unbreakable Fucking Machines vs. PPRay

      typicalROHfan:

Since his act in TNA, I’ve fallen in love with Pretty Peter Avalon AKA Norv Fernum. After re-watching some of his past PWG work and looking over some of the PPRay tag matches with Ray Rosas, I’m a fan. My dream is Avalon holding Michael Elgin up in the vertical suplex position. Hoping for the upset but Elgin and Brian Cage winning seems more reasonable.

      Interest Level: 8/10
      Prediction: Unbreakable Fucking Machines win.

      Tim:

Give Me Fernum or Give Me Death. Death? Alright…

      Interest Level: 5/10
      Prediction: Unbreakable Fucking Machines win.

      Tom:

THE FERNUM MOVEMENT BEGINS… TONIGHT! Yeah, PPRay will get destroyed, but in a really fun way.

      Interest Level: 7/10
      Prediction: Unbreakable Fucking Machines win.

Ricochet and Rich Swann vs. AR Fox and ACH

      typicalROHfan:

It’s going to get bananas. (B-A-N-A-N-A-S, spelled by Gweneth Stefani.) Spots on spots on spots. Of these four, Rich Swann is my favorite so I’m hoping for the Inner City Machine Guns.

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Ricochet and Rich Swann win.

      Tim:

I love both teams and this match is going to be insane but I’m just going to say it: the better team is going to win here.

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: The Inner City Machine Guns win.

      Tom:

Here’s my prediction for this match in audio form:

      Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Ricochet and Rich Swann win by fatality.

      DDT4 Semi-Finals

With the brackets never really official for PWG, we predict how we think the tourney will end after the first round.

      typicalROHfan:

Adam Cole and Kevin Steen over Unbreakable Fucking Machines.

Best Friends over Inner City Machine Guns.

      Tim:

Inner City Machine Guns over Best Friends

Adam Cole and Kevin Steen over Unbreakable Fucking Machines

      Tom:

This is my guess at how everything will go:

Adam Cole and Kevin Steen over Best Friends.

Inner City Machine Guns over Unbreakable Fucking Machines.

      DDT4 Finals

      typicalROHfan:

Best Friends defeat Kevin Steen and Adam Cole to win DDT4 2014.

I’m thinking we see a new team win it this year and my pick is Best Friends. Chuck Taylor is consistently adored and Trent? is on fire right now. Maybe it’s the right timing.

      Tim:

Inner City Machine Guns beat Kevin Steen and Adam Cole to win DDT4 2014.

I think this is ICMG’s to take. They’re great and can work well with every team that comes their way.

      Tom:

Inner City Machine Guns defeat Kevin Steen and Adam Cole to win DDT4 2012.

I’d love to see Best Friends make it to the finals, but my guess is the Inner City Machine Guns will be the ones to get the win over Steen and Cole in the finals, resulting in a title shot against the other two members of Mount Rushmore on the next show. You never know how the brackets will shake out though, so it’ll be exciting to see!
