Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Tye Dillinger

Joey:

I’m the average NXT fan aka I avoid 95% of the television shows but watch the live specials. I have no idea if this Cien dude has wrestled yet or if this is his debut. I never watched him in Mexico but everyone loves him. Hopefully it’s a great debut. I always appreciate Tye Dillinger putting ten fingers in the air so that will be a good time.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Andrade “Cien” Almas wins.

Tim:

I’m hoping Andrade Almas has what he needs to show off here. Tye Dillinger shows signs of being entertaining but I’m not sure how I feel about his in-ring yet. I’m interested in seeing these two wrestle on a big show. Maybe I can get more of a feel for them here.

Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Andrade “Cien” Almas wins.

Tom:

This is Manny Andrade, right? The very handsome Mexican guy? Except now he has a new name? It’s really confusing, man. I like Tye Dillinger a good bit though this seems to be another fairly thankless role for him. Where’s No Way Jose? Why’s he not on this show? Is it racist to bring up No Way Jose when I should be discussing another fantastic breakout Latino superstar? If so, then I apologize unreservedly.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Big Manny wins, I am not racist.

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championship

Joey:

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable are the best tag team in WWE. The Revival are the most average tag team in WWE. This means we’ll get another pretty good match between these teams. Hooray. I still badly wish Gargano and Ciampa were the ones challenging for the titles in a more exciting matchup.

Interest Level: 7/10
Prediction: Gable and Jordan win.

Tim:

I’ve enjoyed these two teams a good bit but I’m ready to move on. I’m sure this will be fun and it’s always nice to see Gable and Jordan do what they do.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Gable and Jordan win.

Tom:

Their Dallas TakeOver match exceeded my admittedly low expectations so I hope this’ll be another fun one. I’ve come around on The Revival, or at least I like the bald one who I am fairly certain is called Dawson.

The Revival is just a tough team to keep up with in general – aside from general uncertainty as to who’s Dash and who’s Dawson, I also have to catch myself from calling “The Reunion”. Is there another wrestling stable called The Reunion? If there isn’t, I’m sure ROH has one planned, most likely with BJ Whitmer at the helm.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: American Alpha wins, even though Joey is RUDE and refuses to use their actual team name.

Asuka vs. Nia Jax for the NXT Women’s Championship

Joey:

I don’t watch enough to know if Nia Jax has improved but I don’t have any anticipation for this match. I understand Bayley vs. Asuka is likely being saved for Brooklyn but someone like Carmella or Alexa Bliss seemed like a more interesting option to finally get a TakeOver singles match with a title shot. Jax doesn’t come off nearly as interesting as the other challengers in the background of the women’s division.

Interest Level: 3/10
Prediction: Asuka wins.

Tim:

I’m not a big fan of Nia Jax. She hasn’t even come close to growing on me like a lot of these NXT wrestlers have. Asuka is intense and always a blast to watch. Nia Jax just doesn’t come off threatening to me like they want her to. It would be an interesting story to see Asuka go up against someone like that but Jax isn’t the one. Like in her match against Bayley, she’s just someone for the champ to beat.

Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Asuka wins.

Tom:

I’m not very interested in Nia Jax and I feel like this match’ll be pretty plodding with a few brief flashes of excitement when Asuka kicks her about. I would also like it if Asuka shouted in Japanese again because that was just wonderful.

Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Asuka wins.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Austin Aries

Joey:

I completely forgot about this show until two days before and there’s very little exciting on the card. Luckily, the realization that Shinsuke Nakamura is going to beat the shit out of Austin Asshole gave me hope. Nakamura winning the title from Samoa Joe at TakeOver: Brooklyn is a great bet and he’s definitely getting the win here over everyone’s least favorite Twitter account.

Interest Level: 8/10
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura wins.

Tim:

I’m very excited about this one. Nakamura is going to knee Aries in the face. This match was targeted at my tastes. I don’t like Aries and will not ever support him but he can go when he wants to. Nakamura brings a unique excitement to every match (and can go when he really wants to).

Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura wins.

Tom:

I’m so glad that this is happening here and not at the Brooklyn TakeOver show that I hope to attend in person! Like, I’m sure it’ll be good, but Aries is a turn-off and he hasn’t really recovered from doing nothing in TNA for so long. Getting to watch Nakamura is still electric though, so I feel like he’ll elevate this to be as good as it can.

These two make for an interesting pair – Aries is the kind of guy who brags about how charismatic and interesting he is, but then Shinsuke shows up with his weirdo ultra-charisma and he makes old A-Double look like an absolute fraud. Wearing a cape and having questionable facial hair might have cut the mustard in 2011, but this is 2016, BABY. Get yourself a sidecut and some leather trousers!

Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Nakamura wins.

Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor for the NXT World Championship in a Steel Cage Match

Joey:

There’s a lot of disinterest here from most and I’m conflicted. I enjoyed both of their prior TakeOver title matches very much but I don’t care about this specific match. Cage matches are a massive bore in 2016 and it seems like a lame stipulation for the feud to end with. I’d be more invested in literally any other stip but the cage kills my interest.

This match has to deliver big for the streak of tremendous TakeOver shows to continue but I can’t see it happening. I expect a typical mediocre cage match with Joe retaining and Balor finally getting closer to a main roster call-up around the time of the draft.

Interest Level: 6/10
Prediction: Samoa Joe wins.

Tim:

I don’t typically like cage matches but I have some hope for this one. They needed a stipulation for the last match between these two and they’ve done enough main event ladder matches. This feud has gone on way too long… so yeah, do the first NXT cage match to spice up their final match. Hell, maybe people (and by people I mean animals) will be more interested if no-one can stop Joe from bleeding this time. The last Joe vs Balor match was a great time even if Balor should have lost the belt there. If we get the badass version of Samoa fucking Joe here it will be grand. Balor is still lacking something for me but I can find some joy in his ring work. Here’s to hoping for no overdone demon.

I’m actually down to end NXT here. It had an awesome run. Let it be a weird moment in time and bring it back in fifty years when you’ve let way too many awesome wrestlers go without a contract for way too long. No? Alright. The product has kind of fallen off for me though!

Interest Level: 9/10
Prediction: Samoa Joe wins.

Tom:

FUCK CAGE MATCHES. Joe/Finn was another Dallas TakeOver match that I had very low expectations for but it ended up being very fun. However, I’d be very surprised if they captured any of that magic here. Cage matches usually suffer from horrible pacing and predictable spots, and even if this really is Finn’s big NXT send-off match, I think it’ll be a struggle to overcome those issues and stand out.

Having said that though, all bets are off if Joe bleeds again. I love blood and I will not apologize for it, TIM. FUCK PG, YEAH, I SAID IT! THIS AIN’T YOUR DADDY’S WWE, THIS IS NXT, BABY! THE REAL ALTERNATIVE! The best case scenario is if the NXT boys feel under pressure to deliver after Zandig redefined what wrestling can be and they somehow incorporate a bunch of weapons to turn this cage match into a cage of death. Really, if the brand split is going to raid NXT of all their talent then they should just turn it into an orgy of flips and gore. Sign all the cruiserweight boys and give them cheesegraters, that’ll do it.

Interest Level: 4/10 w/o blood, 8/10 w/ blood
Prediction: Samoa Joe wins.
