    Dirt Sheet History: May 2006

Take a trip back to a memorable timeline in sports entertainment with the most important stories reported as fact in the journalistic world of pro wrestling dirt sheets.

Following the timeline of the last Dirt Sheet History looking back at April 2006, we get a glimpse into the top scoops from May of 2006. We dive into the news getting ready for ECW One Night Stand 2, start to see the signs of Kurt Angle’s body breaking down and get all the juicy gossip on the Batista vs. Booker T fight.

Reminder that you can find all editions of Dirt Sheet History looking at 2004 and 2005 right here at this very link. Now enjoy May 2006!

    * Kurt Angle is said to be showing more and more signs of wear and tear from the business. He has cut back dramatically on prescription pain killers, but he has been feeling the effects from it. He lives with constant pains, but is looking to tough it out.

    * SLAM! Wrestling reports that JBL will challenge Rey Mysterio at Judgment Day for the WWE Championship.

In a related story, more reports indicate that JBL will face Rob Van Dam at the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view. While not confirmed, look for RVD to cash in his money in the bank contract for a chance to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

    * The overall reaction amongst WWE employees on Joey Styles’ promo from last night was one of absolute shock. Apparently, many people in the company share the same views as Styles voiced in his promo on RAW last night, but would never speak out against Vince McMahon. Everyone was surprised that Vince and Stephanie would allow material of that nature to air live on RAW.

    * According to Dave Meltzer, the decision is final and John Cena will be Rob Van Dam’s opponent in the main event match at the ECW One Night Stand PPV this June.

Apparently WWE will be using this opportunity to officially turn John Cena heel after being booed by fans for months. It also appears that this will be when RVD will cash in his “Money In The Bank” title shot, thus indicating that Cena will continue to retain the WWE Heavyweight Championship.

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

Yeah. You know what time it is. It’s Sexy Wrestler of The Week time!

Well, well, well… It looks like we are at it again. Another week, another sexy wrestler. This week is interesting. Do you want to know what is so interesting about it? Okay, I’ll tell you.

We have a first time winner but looking at the dates on the votes it seems the majority of this wrestler’s votes were cast before Monday. Then on Monday something happened to change this wrestler dramatically but I can’t rule out that you would still have voted for him anyway. Everyone likes a little facepaint.

Do you want to know who the winner is?

Did the description give it away?

It’s your fault if it did. You said you wanted to know why this week was interesting.

I’m still deciding if I want to tell you who the winner is.

I could just cancel this altogether. Is that what you want?

Okay. I guess I’ll tell you now.

There you have it! What was intended to be Cody Rhodes’ first win now leaves us with Stardust as The Sexy Wrestler of The Week! Wrestling is unpredictable. You never really know what is going to happen. Maybe next time you’ll ask yourself “Will I still feel this way if he turns into a strange gold man” before you vote.

Seven Things: Top 7 Tweets of May 2014

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that will run weekly and consist of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

Hello, faithful readers! After a long break, Seven Things returns. I wanted to do this specific list a few weeks ago but technology failed me as my hard drive crashed. Luckily back at 100% posting abilities, I’ve decided to debut a new feature within the feature. My Top 7 Tweets of the month. Each month, I’ll pick out my personal favorite tweets and share it with you fine folks. Keep in mind this is 100% subjective and only features tweets on my timeline.

A special shout out to @fcnquotes who does a monthly Best Tweets feature for his site which gave me the idea. If you’re a NBA fan, it’s a must read: SacreSoldiers. A lot of fun features, some of which I will be a part of!

Reminder: If you have any suggestions for future lists, feel free to share them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter: @JoeySplashwater

    7. Brad Ward on the platypus

    6. Our very own Tom on Spider-Man villains

    This Or That (6/17/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlackett will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Which Paul Heyman client is more likely to win the WWE Championship this year?

    Brock Lesnar – 64%, Cesaro – 36%

Who do you dislike seeing on featured  on TV more?

    Kane – 70%, Big Show – 30%

What will be the more successful PPV?

ROH Best In The World – 88%, TNA Slammiversary – 12%

    Least fashionable E3 press conference?

    Microsoft – 63%, Sony – 37%

Who will have more WWE World Championship reigns in the next 3 years: John Cena or Roman Reigns?

Who will dominate the title picture over the next three years? Does Cena finally have competition for the spot as golden boy?

I can see Roman Reigns having a single longer run as champ but Cena will hold the belt more times. I think they’ll do anything they can to make Reigns the next face of the company but it’s going to take time. I’m curious to see if they book him well after he finally wins the title. WWE isn’t very good at that.

    John Cena

This one is interesting and the question within it is if Roman Reigns will hold Cena’s spot as the face of the company going forward. After last night’s RAW and seeing the crowd go crazy for his win to enter MITB, I’m more fascinated than ever to see what happens with Reigns future. I actually think he can do it and break the 9 year streak Cena has going of being “the guy” in WWE.

Don’t get me wrong. His act will eventually be tiring as the ultimate babyface or “Superman” who is very protected but I can see him withstanding that storm and connecting with the majority of the WWE fans. Plus he has more of a “bad ass” personality that will have a lot of the male fans craving for him to overtake Cena. Reigns will be “the guy” starting next Wrestlemania for a long time after.

    Roman Reigns

While I think old R-Double might end up being champion for a longer period of time over the next three years, I think it’s still Cena who’ll end up with the greater number of individual reigns. He’s the guy the title goes to whenever there’s a meltdown and things get reset, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

While I think Reigns will have a pretty long tenure as champ when he finally does get the belt, I don’t think he’ll be in the position of ‘go-to guy’ for a while. It’s still so, SO early to make any judgements, but FUCK IT: Roman Reigns, I judge thee unworthy to lead the Cenation. Six months in the cubes, creep.

    John Cena

TNA Slammiversary 2014 Preview and Predictions

It’s TNA’s anniversary. Bring stale chocolate and malt liquor.

Giving their thoughts and predictions on what to expect from the PPV are members of the site @JoeySplashwater, @TimWelcomed and @TomBlackett.

    The Von Erichs vs. TBA

Likely vs. The Bro Mans minus Robbie E who is filming a CBS reality show with Brooke Adams. All the experts say the Von Erich kids are not very good which makes perfect sense.

    Interest Level: 0/10
Prediction: Von Erichs go over and are never seen again.

I… uh… Okay? I’m not really excited about this but I hope somehow it is good.

    Interest Level: 0/10
    Prediction: Von Erichs win.

I haven’t watched more than 10 minutes of each episode of Impact for over a month, so I have NO IDEA what is going on in this show and approx. zero interest. I had no idea that there was a new generation of Von Erichs, aside from Lacey. Will they be as good as she is in the ring? HERE’S HOPING.

    Interest Level: No/10
    Prediction: Fuck you.

Austin Aries vs. Kenny King (winner goes on to the main event)

I will not be watching this show but if I ever look it up afterwards, this is one of the only two matches I can ever see myself watching at any point. Kenny King getting featured on television again is one of the few things in TNA that I can say I approve of. Hopefully the friendship between these two leads to good chemistry.

    Interest Level: 6/10
    Prediction: Austin Asshole Aries wins.

This should be an entertaining match.  I’m glad they’ve been using Kenny King again and maybe Austin Aries can bring the best out of him.

    Interest Level: 7/10
    Prediction: Austin Aries wins.

Hey, a match that could be pretty fun! Wasn’t expecting that.

    Interest Level: 5/10
Prediction: Kenny King wins. Continue reading

The Blast Zone: Black Thursday Special

Our controversial opinion sharer Nightlife has returned with The Blast Zone! Don’t expect any punches to be pulled as he fearlessly puts the world of wrestling on BLAST!

Hey guys it’s me, Nightlife (@AnimeKing420), and I’m back. It’s been a while, and I was considering hanging up my vintage ECW shirt that I bought off of wweshop.com in 2008, which I wear every time I write up one of these rants. The anger just wasn’t there as it used to be.

But then, WWE (who I will from henceforth REFUSE to use their “proper” name) did the unthinkable:

    THEY PISSED ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did New York do THIS time, you ask??? If you weren’t a STUPID MARK with your HEAD buried in the Internet sand, you would KNOW the reason:

For those of you who aren’t familiar with JTG, he is the central figure in 90% of wrestling memes. Want a quick, easy laugh? Use the tried-and-true image macro of JTG with “still employed” superimposed over the bottom of the image. Guaranteed upvotes on Reddit and mod favor on 420chan’s wrestling board.

That’s right, true believers. The ‘E has finally done it: they’ve WAGED WAR on the TRUE fans!

Dirt Sheet History: April 2006 (Wrestlemania 22)

Take a trip back to a memorable timeline in sports entertainment with the most important stories reported as fact in the journalistic world of pro wrestling dirt sheets.

Following the timeline of the last Dirt Sheet History looking back at March 2006, we get a glimpse into the top scoops from April of 2006. Featuring Wrestlemania 22, the Hall of Fame, ECW returning, suspensions and many more tidbits, it was a quite memorable month in wrestling. Reminder that you can find all editions of Dirt Sheet History looking at 2004 and 2005 right here at this very link. Now enjoy April 2006!

    * Bret Hart is staying in a different hotel from the WWE wrestlers and crew in Chicago upon his request. Hart was said to be unhappy about WWE continuously trying to get him to sign a contract for his Hall of Fame appearance tonight. WWE is apparently doing so because the contract includes a no-compete clause that would keep him from working with TNA or any other wrestling company.

According to at least one source, Hart just wants to get through the Hall of Fame ceremony and get out of Chicago.

    * Shawn Michaels and his wife left the Hall Of Fame ceremony prior to Bret Hart‘s induction. Michaels left to a mixed reaction from the crowd, with half of the crowd chanted “You screwed Bret” and the other half of the crowd chanting “HBK.”

    * WWE.com posted a “WrestleMania Post Game Show” hosted by Todd Grisham that took place directly after last night’s WrestleMania 22 PPV. The most intriguing interview came from John Cena.

Cena addressed the negative crowd reactions, essentially cutting a promo saying that he would not try to please everyone and that he appreciates everyone that supports him. The WWE Champ continued to say that those that don’t support him better “get used to it” because he is taking the WWE Title to “another level.”

    * WWE issued a text message to their mobile service subscribers today confirming that Randy Orton has been suspended from WWE for “unprofessional conduct.” Although the length of the suspension has not been confirmed, current rumors going around say that it is for 60 days. Rumor has it now that Randy Orton was possibly suspended after results came in on his drug test. No confirmation to this story as of this report, but that is the word making the rounds.

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

Yeah, so… It’s time to name The Sexy Wrestler of The Week!

This week we have a first! A retired wrestler has been crowned The Sexy Wrestler of The Week. I was amazed by this when counting the votes and wasn’t sure if I should let retired wrestlers count but after a long meeting with The Sexy Committee it was ultimately decided that democracy is an impenetrable rock and should never be questioned

With that, let’s now bask in the new winner’s glory.

I don’t know how or why and I don’t plan on asking, but Pat Patterson is our new Sexy Wrestler of The Week. He does have an impeccable sense of fashion. Congratulations to him and to you, the voter. See you next week!
