Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: The Vote!

It’s time for you to decide whose promotion you think has the best chance of being successful in the tough business that is professional wrestling in 2013.

Here’s the scenario that was presented to them:

“With a financial backer, you will be starting a brand new promotion with a small TV deal (similar to TNA’s), with your goal being to be a profitable company that stays in business as long as possible.

You will each draft a total of 12 performers (including one female wrestler and one non-wrestler) over the course of 12 rounds (in the spirit of John Cena movies, obviously).”

    The rules were as follows:

    • Only active wrestlers are allowed.
    • Wrestlers from anywhere in the world or any promotion are allowed.
    • You can only pick as many as THREE male WWE wrestlers and THREE male TNA wrestlers. After that, you must pick wrestlers outside of WWE and TNA.
    • Similar to the NFL fantasy having kicker and defense, at least one of the twelve picks MUST be a female wrestler to be the cornerstone(s) of the division and at least one MUST be a non-wrestler (i.e. an announcer/booker/agent/whatever you want). Neither the female wrestler or the non-wrestler will count as one of your three WWE picks or three TNA picks (so you can have three WWE male wrestlers and three TNA male wrestlers, and still choose a female wrestler or non-wrestler from WWE and TNA).
    • Tag teams will count as one pick, but the tag team must be current and you must intend to use them as a tag team (i.e. you couldn’t pick The Shield with the intention of using Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as singles wrestlers).

With that in mind, take a look below for a final reminder of each of the fantasy federations with a final statement from each of our draft pickers. Then, at the bottom, you’ll find a poll where you can pick who you think should win! Voting will end at midnight on Thursday, September the 12th.  Continue reading

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Twelve

    Brad’s pick: TYSON KIDD

    tyson-kidd-draft-card

    Brad:

(Earth note: TJ Wilson IS Tyson Kidd. We promise.)

TJ Wilson is what I call a diamond that was treated very rough. He is a very solid in ring match technician and has the aerial abilities much like Tanahashi.

While he has not demonstrated talking or been involved in big angles in pro wrestling, I feel Wilson has the mat skills and is so exciting that it makes up for what he lacks in mic skills. Wilson is a guy who can be molded into something I believe will be great. Continue reading

    Let the eleventh round begin!

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Eleven

    Brad’s pick: HIROSHI TANAHASHI

    hiroshi-tanahashi-draft-card

    Brad:

I went with Hiroshi Tanahashi because while he is young, he has the experience as being in the top position with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He carries himself like a complete star and his charisma is only that I can describe as The Beatles.

His work ethic and his dedication to the art form of pro wrestling is almost unmatchable. While he can do his share of high flying, he is a very solid worker. He has drawn sold out crowds in some of the largest arenas and is the definition of a global superstar. Continue reading

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Ten

    Brad’s pick: JESSICKA HAVOK

    jessicka-havok-draft-card

    Brad:

I was told how great Jessicka Havok was for many years. At first I was kind of sceptical with her character being somewhat based off a video game.  I thought her presence was really good, has sex appeal but at the same time is very intimidating.

I feel if you loosely use her character back story without completely using the Resident Evil back story, there is a lot of potential as her as top villain in the women’s division. Continue reading

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Nine

    Brad’s pick: ATHENA

    athena-draft-card

    Brad:

I first found out about the talented Athena during an episode of Ring of Honor TV. I thought she really connected with the fans in the way that a Colt Cabana or a Kofi Kingston does.

She has a really cool finisher called ‘The O Face’ which is a diving Stone Cold Stunner. She is full of energy and is a great opposite to a dastardly heel. Continue reading

    Let the eighth round begin!

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Eight

    Brad’s pick: FOREVER HOOLIGANS

    forever-hooligans-draft-card

    Brad:

I think Forever Hooligans are the perfect team to work my base roster of talent as they have the gimmick that casual fans can connect with as they are a throwback to the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff.

They come off as two natural villains and also have the in-ring work experience to go. I feel their singing of the Russian anthem would draw a great negative reaction to them, especially in the United States.

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Seven

Brad’s pick: DAVEY BOY SMITH JR.

    davey-boy-smith-draft-card

    Brad:

I really like Davey Boy Smith Jr. as a talent because I think he is a guy who just needs either a talker or to be put in a very limited speaking role and he’ll be great. I have seen him wrestle and he is just as good (if not better) than his dad in the ring.

I really like his ring presence, as he has the size to tower over a smaller wrestler. However, when he gets in the ring he has the stamina and intensity to stand toe toe to a Daniel Bryan or a Christian. I think the bottom line is that he just needs the machine behind him and he can be very successful.

Wrestling On Earth Fantasy Draft: Round Six

    Brad’s pick: SAMOA JOE

    samoa-joe-draft-card

    Brad:

Samoa Joe is everything I personally would want to be in a pro wrestler. Has been all over the world, from America to England to Japan and back. He is a guy who if booked properly can be a unstoppable monster who the fans can get behind whether heel or babyface. He can work lucha, strong style, catch-can and is a hell of a brawler. He was involved in some of the most popular feuds that the purist wrestling fan was solidly behind. He is also half-responsible for being involved in the highest draw TNA PPV of all time.

The highest drawing wrestler of all time, Steve Austin, has said Joe is a guy he would love to see in WWE. He can cut one hell of an interview and has really solid delivery. Samoa Joe is a guy I would be confident in booking in a main event, with anyone in my roster on the biggest stage.

    shane-strickland-draft-card

    Brad:

I first found out about Shane Strickland after getting into CZW in 2012. I was amazed by what an amazing performer he was; in his performances, he showed to me what Shelton Benjamin  did early in his career. I also feel that he has the potential to do some amazing stuff with Bryan and Christian.

There are promotions who focus most of their product on some of the stuff Strickland do. I feel he that he stands out enough from my current roster and that he will be a great attraction.

    Brad’s pick: SHELTON BENJAMIN

    Brad:

Shelton Benjamin has been a guy I have always been a fan of. He has the best elements of a Kofi Kingston and an Eddie Edwards.

While Shelton may not be the best talker, he makes up for it by pulling off some spectacular moves. He has been in the wrestling business for over 10 years and has worked for WWE, ROH & NJPW. Continue reading
