Seven Things: 7 Bold Predictions For 2015

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that consists of very eclectic topics. It happens once in a while when inspiration hits.

Quick thing – A friend of a friend is a friend and someone is in need of some help. A friend of mine is trying to help out someone with some unfortunate luck and in need during a very difficult time. Please take a look and if you can help, please do. Here’s the link – CLICK HERE.

Wrestling thing – It’s 2015! 2014 was one of the most bizarre years in wrestling history. CM Punk left WWE, a “fan movement” pushed Daniel Bryan into the Wrestlemania main event, Alberto Del Rio was fired for slapping a racist employee, AJ Styles made TNA look like fools, Sting (in a t-shirt) joined WWE, Kevin Steen (in a t-shirt) joined WWE, NJPW became relevant to American wrestling fans, ROH took steps forward (namely gaining PPV) and TNA took steps backwards (namely losing PPV).

Hey yo: If you have any suggestions for future lists or topics you’d care to hear my opinion on, feel free to share them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter: @JoeySplashwater

    7. Neither Dolph Ziggler or Dean Ambrose will have a singles main event on PPV

    zigglerambrose

Sad to say but the babyface pecking order is getting to be a tough climb. There’s the constant John Cena, a returning Daniel Bryan, a soon to be returning Randy Orton and WWE’s Christmas wish of a baby face Roman Reigns. Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose are clearly below those four and I can’t see getting over those hurdles. You can turn them heel as the only current top villains are Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar with the latter likely leaving. The problem is their highest stock are due to the babyface runs. Ziggler is currently doing the best work of his career and Ambrose was built as a decent merch-mover when hitting on all cylinders as a face while feuding with Seth Rollins.

Every year around Wrestlemania season, a few wrestlers get lost in the shuffle and have a hard timing getting back to where they were at the start of the year. I think both guys will have significant roles but I can’t see them getting back to the main event status like the Autumn of 2014. I have a little more faith in Ambrose due to his ceiling but you’d have assumed he’d be treated like a bigger deal after his great run in the August-October months if the hopes were higher.

Seven Things: 7 Most Asinine Things Michael Elgin Said

Michael Elgin has become pro wrestling’s Amanda Bynes.

Muddled in controversy with Ring of Honor the last few months, Michael Elgin sat down with HighSpots to take part in a “shoot interview” to clear his name. Breaking the silence, Elgin answers everything about his citizenship issues, heat among wrestlers in the ROH locker room and why he lost the ROH Championship.

At the risk of exposing myself too much, I’m a softie at heart and many times when I go into watching a shoot interview of a wrestler I dislike, I tend to find sympathy for their side of a story and understand them a little better. This was not the case here.

Elgin shows a high level of arrogance and entitlement while passing the blame to everyone else for each of his issues. I wouldn’t recommend watching this unless you’re hooked deeply into the ROH vs. Michael Elgin story and even so, I can’t vouch for sitting through 2 hours of this.

HighSpots provides excellent content like The Kevin Steen Show and Project Paul London DVDs that are much more worth your money and time. For traditional shoots, there’s a $1 Davey Richards shoot on their DIYWrestling.com VOD site that was far more interesting than this.

    7. “People like to just get butt hurt. That’s in our society.”

No, this quote was not about anal sex. Though, Michael Elgin does talk about his sex life later in the shoot thanks to Wrestling On Earth’s own @TomBlargh.

    hornyfacts

Elgin was asked about referring to himself as “Mr. Wrestlemania Weekend” and it rubbing the ROH locker room the wrong way. He admitted that many ROH wrestlers disliked him and were annoyed by the nickname but it was “funny” to him. Elgin says he’s a funny guy that just loves to make jokes and saying something like that is his concept of humor. More ridiculous is “Unbreakable” talking about how society gets offended too easily and that was the case with his fellow ROH wrestlers.

95% of the time in life when someone’s excuse for saying stupid is that society gets too offended these days, it’s because the person is unhappy with reaction to saying or doing something foolish. See: Daniel Snyder and NFL folks wanting to keep the insensitive “Redskins” name while holding on to the crutch that people are just too sensitive today.

Seven Things: Top 7 Wrestlers Younger Than I Am

God damn. This is going to be depressing to write.

I was reading The Wrestling Blog a week ago and one of the questions was asking to compile a list of the best wrestlers younger than you. An idea was fully formulated to write this because as I grow older, I continue to find myself getting quite depressed for a good few minutes when realizing a great athlete is younger than me. I’m still relatively young with my birth date being in February of 1989, making me a healthy 25 year old.

Luckily in wrestling, there are very few wrestlers younger than me and the ones that are, happen to just be a couple of months younger typically. I’ll delve deeper into my insecurities and self doubt as a human looking at the wrestlers younger than me who have accomplished far more than I have in less time.

Disclaimer: This list is based on how much a wrestler depresses me with their age more so than who is the best. Only the most scientific ranking systems here at Wrestling On Earth.

    7. Bo Dallas (24 years old)

    agebodallas

Before I researched this, I never would have guessed Bo Dallas was younger than me. In fact, I’d have assumed he was nearing 30 rather than barely being 25. Maybe it’s due to the nature of Dallas being an odd looking individual. I recently watched an interview of Bo that made me appreciate just how awkward of a human being he truly is and I now like him a little more than I used to.

Seven Things: 7 Worst #IfIWereBookingRaw Tweets

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that consists of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

Vince Russo thought it would be a good idea to give wrestling fans a hashtag game where they can make booking jokes.

    What could go wrong?

Seven Things: 7 Possible WWE Employees Alberto Del Rio May Have Beat Up

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that consists of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

Alberto Del Rio was fired by WWE today for “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.” Del Rio is a skilled shoot fighter so chances are he fucked someone up. Just who could it be? We explore!

    7. Sin Cara

    adrsincara

Alberto Del Rio despised the original Sin Cara AKA Mistico. Perhaps he may have forgotten that they replaced the Sin Cara wrestler and it’s now Hunico. It’s reasonable to wonder if Del Rio had a memory lapse and wanted to beat up Mistico one more occasion for old time’s sake.

    6. Adam Rose

    adrrose

If you’ve been watching his segments on Raw and DON’T want to punch his face, you’re a rare breed.

    5. Randy Orton

    adrorton

His Twitter insults to his obsessed fans show that he’s not above using ethnic specifying comments in every day life. What if he actually wanted to compliment Alberto and referred to him as something along the lines of “What’s up, my Latin son?” to which shoot mode takes effect and ADR pummels Orton coloring his wretched tattoos red.

Seven Things: 7 Favorite WCW Nitro Memories

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that consists of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

With the WWE Network featuring recent specials on the Monday Night Wars and the best of WCW Nitro, it led me to ponder on how much I enjoyed that show growing up. We all know the great talents and the variety of characters that WCW thrived on to take over the wrestling world in 1996 and 1997.

Some things are interesting to reflect on as memories are altered when you obtain knowledge and it can change your perception of them. That will be showcased here as I’m listing my favorite memories based strictly off how much I enjoyed them as a kid watching it as it happened in real time during the height of the Monday Night Wars.

Reminder: If you have any suggestions for future lists, feel free to share them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter: @JoeySplashwater

    7. Goldberg wins the WCW Championship

During the Summer of 1998, wrestling was at its hottest. The Steve Austin era in WWE was on fire along with the ascension of Degeneration X and The Rock. WCW, still putting out great numbers, was starting to lose steam due to an inability to create new stars but one guy was given “the ball” on this night and it was Goldberg.

Even as a 9 year old, I was able to form concepts of logic in pro wrestling and usually a title match on television with little to no advertising would mean the chances of a championship changing hands were little to none. I was already dreading the run-in DQ finish that was typical for the nWo matches on Nitro but on this night, it didn’t happen. Goldberg won the title off of Hogan via a Jackhammer and the arena exploded with cheers as did my living room.

    6. Sting joins the NWO Wolfpack

Remember when I said you look at things differently once you get introduced to knowledge and common sense? Well, this is one of those instances. When the NWO split in half, Sting joined the Wolfpack, a group of popular NWO faces wanting to get away from Hulk Hogan. As a kid, I ate this up. The coolest wrestler at the time in WCW, Stinger, joined the faction of nearly equally cool guys like Kevin Nash, Randy Savage and Konnan. Yes, I somehow thought Konnan was cool at the time. Color me shamed.

Looking back, this was one of the most asinine decisions in wrestling history and showed the problems WCW had. One of the greatest stories in WCW history was Sting standing alone after the NWO took over HIS company and turned his friends and fans against him. Sting then rallied to be the one guy who could stand up against them and became the hero the fans needed. How can you kill that?

By having him wear a NWO shirt a few months after he returns to the ring. Nash, Savage and Konnan all made his life hell and he joins them because a mutual friend in Lex Luger tells him they’re good guys now? I want to punch my 9 year old face for loving The Wolfpack so much at the time.
