    Dirt Sheet History: January 2006

Take a trip back to a memorable timeline in sports entertainment with the most important stories reported as fact in the journalistic world of pro wrestling dirt sheets.

Following the timeline of the last Dirt Sheet History looking back at the end of 2005, we get a glimpse into the top scoops from January 2006. Going forward, Dirt Sheet History will be a weekly feature covering each month in the timeline as opposed to three months at a time as there’s a jump in relevant stories. 1jan

    * Vince McMahon nixed the idea of WWE wrestlers appearing at the December 16 Eddie Guerrero tribute show in Tijuana, implying the company would do something instead.

    * Vince McMahon is interested in having Bret Hart make an appearance at WrestleMania 22. Hart’s role would be to serve as the special referee for the Vince McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels match. Those close to Bret Hart, however, are confident the wrestler will not take part. Hart and McMahon still have problems with one another, as each has taken shots at one another in their recently released DVD and book.

    * Sunday night at a SmackDown live event, World Heavyweight Champion Batista injured his triceps in a match against Mark Henry. The extent of the injury is undetermined at this point. WWE.com will have more information on Batista’s injury later today.

    * Word has it that Batista may not be back in time for WrestleMania. While doctors have not given the final word, writers are already discussing ways to get the title off of Dave. Ideas thrown around so far are a tournament, where superstars compete for the title in a King of the Ring type competition. One other idea is to simply have Batista drop the strap tonight at the SmackDown tapings, so long as it’s quick and safe. There are also talks of striping the belt from Batista and have the Royal Rumble become a WWE World Title match, where the winner would become champion and a SmackDown superstar. However, as of this report, none of the above is etched in stone. * The live, hot sex edition of RAW last night scored a 4.3. The overrun, which of course was the “live sex” segment, did a 5.2, which is a great number. Continue reading

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

Hey. Listen. I’ve got something to tell you. It’s time to name The Sexy Wrestler of The Week!

Well, the time has come to once again name the wrestler with the most votes in our weekly Sexy Wrestler of The Week contest. I am excited as always and maybe a little tired from counting the record-breaking amount of votes that were cast this time around. So let’s get to the goods and reveal who the winner is.

There you have it. John Cena is your Sexy Wrestler of The Week for the very first time!I’m surprised that it took this long but even more surprised that this very picture is the ONLY picture of the most popular wrestler that is available on the internet. Really makes you think…

    This Or That (5/13/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlackett will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Which continuing feud do you dislike more?

Daniel Bryan vs. Kane – 80%, John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt – 20%

Which English champion loses their title first?

Tie! Bad News Barrett – 50%, Paige– 50%

    Bigger bust?

    Sin Cara’s WWE career – 68%, Batista’s Return – 32%

Better source of cartoons in your lifetime?

    Cartoon Network – 53%, Nickelodeon – 47%

More likely to be the next WWE World Champ: John Cena or the field (anyone else)?

Who seems more likely to be the next champ with the recent turn of events regarding Daniel Bryan?

I would love to see someone else get it that isn’t Cena, Orton, Miz (lol), or Ryback (lolol) for a little while but I guess I can’t really go against Cena getting it. It’s just how things have been and will be until he decides to hang it up. So, yeah… Cena.

    John Cena

The Daniel Bryan injury is huge if he’s out for a while and for that reason, I think WWE will go for stability in having Cena winning the title as he is old reliable. Looking at the roster, no one is really in the position to be champ. The close calls are Bray Wyatt, Cesaro and Roman Reigns but none of them are in the place WWE wants them to be when winning the big one for the first time but would make a good surprise.

Triple H and Brock Lesnar are also possible for the short term but of all those names, Cena is the only one that seems fairly realistic. This is all of course if Bryan actually has to drop the title. If he doesn’t, I still expected Cena to be the one to take the belt off of Bryan at Summerslam leading to a Brock Lesnar vs. Cena Wrestlemania 31 main event.

    John Cena

Man. I mean, I really can’t imagine who else it could be. There’s still plenty of juice in a Bryan/Cena feud that they could take advantage of by having it go back on Cena, and I also get the feeling that the WWE is close to going into panic mode, which generally involves Cena getting the belt back. It’d be cool if it was someone COMPLETELY new and different, but I really don’t see that happening.

    John Cena

News for The Week of May 12, 2014

    • Out of fear that we will not be prepared for the oncoming end times, WWE is using Legends’ House as a way to reveal to the world that “Mean” Gene Okerland and Pat Patterson are two of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

    • With more cryptic tweets, many in WWE are wondering if Dolph Ziggler is considering leaving WWE to try a career in being a horrible comedian.

    • Adam Rose‘s rabbit and El Torito are expected to stay on television longer than the wrestlers they appear with.

    • Bram is just the first of a stable that TNA is is looking to debut. Jam, Blam, Cam, Sam, and the wily vet, Nam, will be arriving in the upcoming months.

    • Someone in TNA accidentally booked Mike Tyson for their Knockouts PPV thinking it was a boxing theme.

    • TNA management wants Taz to wear a crown and Mike Tenay a cowboy hat in the near future.

Hey. Take a look at this horrible picture.

    • ‘The Ashes of Chikara‘ recently premiered, which is definitely an actual feature film and not just a bunch of videos you’ve already seen on YouTube edited together.

    • The Dragon Gate: USA show you thought was happening next month actually took place this past weekend.

    • Lance Storm is terrified of thunderstorms.

BREAKING! CM Punk can’t go to Target.

Seven Things: 7 Most Memorable Wrestling Moms

Welcome to Seven Things, a list that will run weekly and consist of very eclectic topics. These are of my opinions and doesn’t express the views of others on WrestlingOnEarth.

Happy Mother’s Day! Time to count down the seven most memorable moms in the history of pro wrestling. Looking at some of their memorable moments and giving them a rating on a scale of one to five pies based off their kayfabe motherhood skills, let’s get into it!

Reminder: If you have any suggestions for future lists, feel free to share them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter: @JoeySplashwater.

    7. Linda McMahon

The first mother of the WWE Universe and failed politician, Linda McMahon was mostly on television during The Attitude Era. Mother of Shane and Stephanie, wife of Vince, Linda is mostly remembered for getting Tombstone piledriven by Kane on the stage, getting slapped by Stephanie, delivering a swift kick to Jim Ross in the testicles, being comatose while Vince made out with young women and coming out to the old Wrestlemania theme song.

    Pie rating: *1/4

    6. Mrs. Cleavage

Mosh of The Headbangers was repackaged as Beaver Cleavage, the son of Mrs. Cleavage. They were supposed to be a parody of the TV series Leave It To Beaver but less wholesome family entertainment and more incest teases. It lasted less than a month after debuting. Attitude Era, man. Attitude Era.

    Pie rating: DUD

Alternate Timelines: Who Should Have Ended The Streak?

Most were displeased with Brock Lesnar ending The Streak of Undertaker’s undefeated Wrestlemania matches. I take a look at all the other realistic possibilities and if they would have been better.

With the talk of wrestling still partially being about The Undertaker’s Streak as recently heard on The Ross Report with Shawn Michaels discussing it and having enough time to fully process in reliving the moment numerous times, I decided to think who else aside from Brock Lesnar could have realistically ended The Streak. Looking at the pros and cons, I come to the conclusion of who should have been the one to end The Streak.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter: @JoeySplashwater

    Roman Reigns

One of the most popular choices of someone many pundits think would have been the best option. Roman Reigns is probably the best prospect to be a mega superstar in WWE since John Cena. WWE clearly wants to make him a big babyface so why not give him the biggest win possible and put the rocket to his back launching him on the biggest stage possible?

    Why not:

We’ve never really seen what Roman Reigns can do as a singles star. Sure, he has cool matches but it’s under the umbrella of The Shield. Once that ends, his gear will be different, he’ll have to cut promos on his own, he’ll basically have to prove himself all over again with more pressure. What if he cracks? You can’t risk that with someone ending The Streak.

Should he have ended The Streak:

    Sexy Wrestler of The Week

Welcome to Sexy Wrestler of The Week. In this feature we will name your Sexy Wrestler of The Week. You vote and we count the votes. We then take the person with the most votes and say “Hey, this is The Sexy Wrestler of The Week.”

Welcome back. You’ve made it another week! You can experience the general feeling of finding out who is the sexiest wrestler of the week based on how you, the readers, voted. That’s exciting. But you know that.

I am going to just go ahead and tell you who the winner is but first, I think you would like a little teaser so here it is: This person has never won this prestigious award. This is new territory for said wrestler.

    Here. We. Go.

Wow. There it is. Seth Rollins wins his first Sexy Wrestler of The Week award. I’m happy for him but I’m more happy for you all. You all get to vote every week and have your voice heard. that’s really cool! Awesome stuff, ladies and men. I can’t wait for next week and I am sure you can’t either.

    This Or That (5/6/2014)

Everybody loves binary decisions, especially wrestling fans! In This Or That, we’ve forced ourselves to choose between two options that relate to wrestling.

Over four questions, @TimWelcomed, @JoeySplashwater and @TomBlackett will have to choose one of two options and give their reasoning on each of their choices. You can then vote on which one you’d choose, giving you the false impression that you’re somehow involved and we care about your opinion chance to join the conversation!

Before we start, here’s last week‘s results:

Which push are you looking forward to more?

    Cesaro – 66%, Bad News Barrett– 34%

More likely to have a singles match at Wrestlemania 31?

    Rey Mysterio – 68%, Christian – 32%

Who returns to have a match on TV first?

    Evan Bourne – 65%, JTG – 35%

    Better web browser?

    Chrome – 68%, Firefox – 32%

Which continuing feud do you dislike more: Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena or Daniel Bryan vs. Kane?

Both seem to be continuing for another month. If you were able to end of the two, which would you?

I’m not liking either at all. The way they book around Cena is doing The Wyatt Family no favors and Kane being Kane is doing Daniel Bryan no favors either but I at least have very little doubt that Bryan will walk from the Kane feud still champion. Bray Wyatt needs to come off strong in this feud but I can just see Cena finishing out the feud on top and The Wyatts running out of steam completely at that point. Not to mention the storytelling for Bray and Cena has been very inconsistent.

    Bray Wyatt vs John Cena

After Extreme Rules, it’s hard to tell. One produced a good match but is like an anchor stopping the Daniel Bryan title reign from taking off as well as hoped. The other is just bizarre and confusing. The next month of WWE TV with these two angles continuing is not a great sign.

If having to pick one, I’ll lean towards Kane vs. Daniel Bryan. I enjoyed Cena vs. Wyatt up until Wrestlemania and wish it ended there. The Kane vs. Bryan is just slighting excitement from Bryan’s title reign after a surreal Wrestlemania moment. It’s also gonna lead to a Buried Alive or Inferno Match in all likelihood. Last night’s horrific segment showed how terrible of TV we have to look forward to for the next month.

    Kane vs. Daniel Bryan

Honestly, I don’t think I can deal with much more horror movie Kane. You could say that it’s a rite of passage for Bryan to go through at least one dreadful Kane feud as champion, but it’s one that I could do without.

The Wyatt / Cena stuff is dumb, but not on quite such a horrific level, and I don’t think it’s as potentially damaging – if Bryan’s first feud as champ is a real stinker, it could spell trouble for the rest of his reign.

    Kane vs. Daniel Bryan
